Will a 1080 rear fit on a Thule roof rack

Seems like it should not be a deciding factor but we have a small car and my bike always goes on the roof. Will a 1080 fit on the rear wheel rubber clamp thing?

I would search around.
Thule used to sell a velcro strap for deep dish wheels. I bought one and it works really well.
You replace that rubber thingy with the velcro strap. I did a quick search of the Thule site and can’t find it anymore. I purchased mine a few years back.
I would call them and ask if they still offer it. Im sure a bunch of people here will tell you to put the wheel in the car and put your training wheel up there which isn’t a bad idea.

No but fits on yakima
.

Swimfan is right, I tried it this summer, doesn’t work.

My FP80 didn’t fit. Guess no way a 1080 would fit. I emailed Thule Customer service from their form on their website. Training wheel in the trunk would be smart but like I said it is usually a tight fit.thanks.

Put your bike on the roof, but put your VERY EXPENSIVE carbon wheel in the trunk or back seat. Use a training wheel on the roof. Just my two sense, but I’d NEVER put my race wheels up top.

In my experience a 404 is borderline with the Thule ratchet mechanism. To strap an 808 (or 1080) go to the HW store and get an appropriate length of nylon webbing and a fastex buckle. Cut the webbing to the appropriate length and thread it into the buckle. Wrap around the rim and the Thule tray, snap the buckle, cinch it down, and you are all set.

Or: Use a bungee cord from the dollar stores, loop under the wheel tray, through the bike rear triangle, through the spokes. You just need to tie down the chainstays so the wheel doesn’t jump out of the wheel tray.

1080??? LCD or Plasma?

x2

I usually never put my bikes up top w/ deep dish wheels on unless I’m driving for a very short distance. I’ve never had a bike fly off or run into a garage, but you never know…

Well, contrary to what all of you had to say, I have now in my hand a long wheel strap directly from Thule. I ended up going with an FP80, but did not receive it yet ,so will let you know how it works. I have no doub it will work with the 808 size, maybe even 1080.

Part number is 853-7006., it was $12 shipped.

If u really MUST have your wheel on the bike rack (as opposed to inside the car), how about using a piece of string (instead of the racheting strap) to secure the wheel to the roof rack.

I put my bike in the car and excess luggage (i.e. clothes) on the roof rack. Where are your priorities…?? That is a $1k wheel.
