I heard a rumor that this is a pretty fun place. What is the loudest, rowdiest …and of course best campsite focus and get ready to race? We’ll be in a 25ft RV, showing up on Wednesday afternoon hopefully giving some choice.
I read through the athlete guide- can’t figure out if we can leave early Sunday morning and if the roads are open before 8am?
I’m going to use an RV term here with the understanding that I only slightly know what the heck I’m talking about …the “full hookup” sites are pretty few and far between, are traditionally either reserved (say, in a pro-only area) or taken up days in advance so if you’re not already slotted for one of those sites you may be left to park your RV on any level ground and stay self contained. I think a Wednesday afternoon arrival will give you some good options for that.
Here’s a map to help: there are advantages and disadvantages to different spots. For example if you park it down in the Lynch Campground you are deep in the mix (expo, trans, start, finish, etc) but then leaving on Sunday AM would be far harder - I think you might have to sneak out pre-dawn as athletes come streaming down Lynch hill and they won’t let you drive up and I’m not 100% sure you’ll be able to get out to Beach Hill either - Lynch is the kind of camp ground that requires a full commitment.
I think you should park it in Redonda Vista (it’s the first right after you get through the park gate). You can drive the whole Redonda Vista loop to see options and I want to suggest the “J loop” with the grassy field in the center but you might see another spot that looks good. The party vibe is mixed in all areas - keep in mind; Friday night folks are looking to sleep early due to the Long Course on Saturday, Saturday many Long Course finishers are COOKED and the Olympic folk are hoping to sleep early so there is partying but it’s on the softer side. Parking in Redonda Vista means you have to walk, bike or take a bus up and down Lynch Hill for registration, race morning, to hit the store, see the expo, etc. so bring a back pack and be ready to minimize trips.

Ian, I don’t think Lynch is even open to the general public. That is all pro/sponsor areas as far as i know

Redonda J loop is a good call, unless of course it’s like past years where some asshole from a southern CA tri club (who shall remain nameless, but we all know who) drives up on Monday and reserves all the good RV slots (about 8 of them) for the entire week, drives home for the rest of the week and strolls in on Friday evening like he’s got a 5lb cock and moves into a space you could have had on Wednesday if he played by the rules.

This would most definitely be the college clubs campsite. Too bad people from the “real world” aren’t allowed in.
Everyone has only talked about Lynch & Redonda. A buddy and I are tent camping, will there be enough space in Redonda for all the participants or do some get pushed to Lupine? Just as reference, we are arriving late afternoon Thursday and also trying to leave Sunday morning.
Any advice from prior participants is really welcome - this is our first time there!
Wildflower is not a “camp in a designated” spot deal. It’s a “camp where there is enough room for your tent” deal. Seriously, find some grass or dirt that’s realtively flat and you’re good. I have heard people getting directed to the overflow camping in Lupine, and I’ve heard it is quieter there, but can’t imagine at what point that acually occurs. And you’d miss the “naked” run out there

That was several coach jackasses and triclub pricks who did that in loops A, B, C, D, and E all by Wednesday afternoon. They caution-taped off several sites at a time, would put an empty tent or lawn chairs on a parking spot to “reserve” it, park a trailer in one spot and their car in another to hold it, etc.
Then the awkwardness ensues. Do you call them out? Do you just move their stuff and take a spot? Do you search elsewhere? Do you tell park staff? The park staff has assured me every time I go that NO SPOTS other than Lynch are reservable. There are general areas for Clubs, Collegiate, TnT, Cal Poly, etc, but again, NO RESERVED SPOTS. Is it EVER enforced? Doubtful.

If I’m not mistaken, the remainder of Redonda loop is actually reserved by TNT throught tri-california, with a giant tent for their gatherings set up in the meadow. That’s the only area not open to general admission at the top of the hill.
