Wildflower 2025

Wow, great news. I have done this race a dozen times starting in the early 90’s, and love the camping aspect of it. Colleen will make it happen better than anyone.

why? they are an alternative to ironbrand that offers lower cost racing. your attitude is kind of like iphone people being snobby down to android users

I’m doing the AlphaWin event. The extra $150 or so for a premium event isn’t worth it to me. I hope we don’t lose all the smaller event organizers.

I’ve only ever done one AW event, out at La Quinta, it was fine

But the AW Lake San Antonio swim and run courses are awful loops/ out and backs, the run especially is not Wildflower worthy IMO

And as for independents, WF and the race organizers are about as grassroots/small race as you can get. AW is way bigger

I’ve taken about a 5 year hiatus from triathlon. After my last one (Savageman) I kind of lost interest and started doing more trail running and then life just got too busy. I kind of gave up all endurance sports.

But…Wildflower was always a bucket list race for me. I am considering dusting off my bike and giving it a go.

Does anyone know if WF would be expected to sell out? I need to figure out if I can train for this or not.

Also, I sold my bike box and have no idea, logistically, I’d make it happen. But I’m sure I’d figure it out.

Hard to judge re sell out. I don’t think it sold out many times in the past, maybe a few? I’d say that it likely won’t sell out, especially the long course. Maybe the Oly. But perhaps because it’s a comeback?

So

Depends but I doubt it

What is the Wildflower Squared option?

Synthesis, I don’t believe I said “Say no to any AW event” I said “NO to AW putting on this event” I have heard both good and bad reviews for AW events. My only gripe with them is how they presented themselves last year as they started their own event at Lake San Antonio. Otherwise I wish them great success!

Used to be, do the Long Course Saturday and Oly Sunday. Or be like Ian Murray and do the sprint course AND long course saturday then the Oly

Looks like it is still the Long Course on Saturday, Olympic on Sunday.

I’m * this * close to hitting “register”…

Did you use the www.wildflowerexperience.com address?

Camping will be like past years. Expect the large bell tents, the open spaces, and RV spaces. Registration for camping will be through Wildflower Experience, and details on camping should be coming by end of October.

Chris, I just registered for the “easy double”: Oly on Saturday and off road sprint on Sunday. Whole bunch of random thoughts on the news…

  • Beyond excited that this is back on the calendar. Couldn’t be happier.

  • Thrilled to see that the off-road sprint bike course will now follow the long course run route and have more dirt, more trial, less overlap, a wee bit more technical, and I can see how Colleen used language that welcomes BOTH Mtb and Gravel bikes. I’m all in on that; going gravel for sure with 47mm tires - cannot wait!

  • Re long course; haven’t done it in ages - there was a time when Jolon Road was BAD, the roughest chip-seal! So we all rode the white line as it was smoother, but as the years wore on the white line disintegrated and it was just a numbing vibra-ride. Of course we were all on 21-23mm tires at 110psi - so here’s another great reason disc brakes are so dreamy: 28-30mm at 60psi and just flowing smooth over whatever Jolon is now.

  • On road sprint tri on Sunday with 1100+ft of gain in 20k. NICE!!!

  • There will be music… and perhaps in the future a gravel race… hell, by 2025 psilobic shrooms could be at the final aid station of each run and we’ll have an endurance version of Burning Man.

Ian

Ha! Love the last point :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The double, wow way to dive back in full force! I do remember riding the white line for any relief from the chip seal. Hopefully they’ve done some maintenance on Jolon, but won’t hold my breath. Will be interesting to get feedback form anyone that previews the course in the near future!

I don’t think all of the different races provide tough challenges, but not so brutal that they can only done by super studs.

Love that Colleen is bring all the options back and very open to new options such as gravel.

I think you have the races in the wrong place Ian. Not going back and looking, it seemed to me that the offroad triathlon was on Saturday(during the 1/2 race) and the Olympic was on Sunday, with the sprint road on Sunday too…I’m probably going for the off road on sat, thought about the road sprint on Sunday too, but two back to back 5k’s might just be asking my body for too much, and for trouble… (-;

Mark, you’re right I reversed them in my post…
EASY DOUBLE… Off Road Sprint on Saturday (only 2 mile run but loaded with non-stop, punchy climbs) and then Oly on Sunday. That’s the call for me.

It says 5k run unfortunately, I wish it was that old 2 mile puncher! (-;

The on-road sprint is 500m swim, 20k bike, 5k run
The off-road sprint is 500m swim, 10mi bike, 2mi run

When I hit the registration button this is what the site gives me for Off road sprint:

500M SWIM, 10K BIKE, 5K RUN. THIS PRICE INCLUDES THE $10.70 TRANSACTION FEE.

And for the on road sprint it gives me this:

500M SWIM, 10K BIKE, 5K RUN. THIS PRICE INCLUDES THE $10.70 TRANSACTION FEE.

Perhaps there is another description somewhere, but this is what I see on the reg page when you click on each race. So 6 miles bikes, thought that was a bit short…

Oh this is interesting… Here’s the text I see in the course description. I would say too that in the past the race was ~500m swim, 10mi bike, and 2mi run… and while the swim and run look to be the same the bike course is different and so much better than the old one.

The Off-Road Sprint Distance Triathlon is for those who want to get on a bike and hit the trails in the backcountry. The bike portion of this event is more of a Gravel Course than a technical Mountain bike course, but you will probably see a mix of different wide tired bike types being utilized as it is a course designed to suit a range of riding styles. After completing a 1/4 mile (500 meters) swim, the 10 mile bike portion of this race kicks off on a mile-long stretch of paved road along the lake. It then quickly switches over to a mix of open gravel roads, dirt double-track, and singletrack trails linked together with smaller sections of paved roads through the hilly campgrounds looping back down Lynch Hill into transitions. The run is a 2 mile out and back paved course along Shoreline Drive. This event is perfect for the person who wants an Off-Road gravel-style sprint race but still wants to be part of the Wildflower Experience.

And that’s reiterated when you click on the “map and details” button
