Widest Base Bar

Hello all,

What base bar offers the widest distance for aerobar extension placement? I presently have the original HED integrated aerobar. The adjustability is good, but I was wondering if there were any bars that would support wider extension placement. Thanks!

Do you need the actual extensions to be wider apart or the elbow pads to be wider apart.

Im very broad for my height due to many years of weight lifting and a couple of shoulder injuries have meant that I needed to place the elbow pads as wide as I could.

Not so easy to do until I found Zipp Vuka pad extensions. They fit between the aerobars and the elbow pads and allow you set up the extensions close while increasing the width between elbow pads. They have three sets of holes to allow up to 1 3/4 inches extra width per side.

They have been a real life saver for me, and as I overcome the shoulder problems/ fexibility issues, Im slowly decreasing the width between the pads.

x2.

The Profile Stoker go to 47 cm. You can set your clip ons anywhere along the width so you can go massively wide. Trisports has them in stock.

You sound just like me. It’s definitely just the elbow width. What base bar do you have to use the Zipp extensions with? Thanks.

Visiontech basebar with vision carbon extensions (P3C). The Vuka extensions bolt straight on. Takes all of 2 minutes.

I cant remember where I got them from now, but this is what Im talking about.

Also consider getting extensions that allow you to angle in. What I mean is, just because we need our elbows out wider, doesn’t mean we want our hands wide. In fact this is uncomfortable for your rotator cuff. You want to be able to form a triangle with your hands narrow, elbows wide. Some extensions allow you to do this without modification, some don’t. IMO it’s much more comfortable if you can.

I don’t think the vision extensions allow you to change the angle of the pads.

That’s actually how I have my HED aerobar set up. I guess not all aerobars allow you to angle your hands in?

Exactly. Some don’t let you angle the extensions in, some don’t let you angle the pads in and some don’t let you do either. Oval concepts are designed to do all of this although I’ve never used them.

I don’t know which other clip ons or bars are designed to be able to angle the extensions in. Which annoys me because I’m sure that it’s a problem for lots of people (maybe I should start a thread on this…).

The way I’ve got around it is by using ski bends and rotating them inwards bringing the the tips together. It’s not ideal but the steeper the ski bend the better it works.

Pads can be more difficult. With some extensions (profile design carbon stryke and blackwell research wrist relief are 2 that I’ve used) they’re designed to allow you to angle the pads in. With some (like Hed) I’m told (by Andy from Hed) that you can pretty easily drill out the holes to adjust the pads. Vision, look like they would be very difficult to adjust like this.
