I’m training for my 1st IM, following my program, not eating like a pig on lesser training days… but I’m not losing ANY weight! I can’t stand it! I was thinking it would start to fall off by now… What’s going on? Am I totally nuts?
Muscle weighs more than fat. You can’t base it on what the scale says. Base your progress on your fitness level and how your clothes are fitting. No matter what, you have to admit that you’re in the best shape you’ve probably been in in a long time, right?
You are still eating enough to maintain weight. Try eating less or exercising more and not eating any more.
EXACTLY…you will weigh more, you are stonger and have much more muscle mass.
I’m in the same boat. I can’t lose weight. I can, but it is very, very difficult for me and I put in back on very easily. I can gain pounds over the course of a few days of debauchery and it takes weeks to lose it again. Alcohol is the key factor for me and I need to cut it out completely to lose significant weight or to lose the last few pounds.
Another issue is age. Once I got to about 35, I could not just eat like a pig every day and maintain the same weight. This age will be different for every one.
I have had the exact same experience until I started a new thing recently. That is: counting calories, protein, carbs, and fat. I use a piece of software called “Calorie King” to help out but there are a bunch of tools on the internet for this purpose. What I have found out is that even though I have been eating healthy and less, I was eating the wrong types of fuel. For example I thought that I was getting enough protein but when I recorded the hard numbers it turns out that I was actually eating a lot more fat than I thought and not nearly enough protein. Eating a low fat diet was harder than I had anticipated. Anyway, I’ve been on this program for about a month and I’ve lost 4lbs which is exactly the rate of weight loss that I was aiming for. Also, check out “The New Glycemic Revolution”. A fabulous book on food types and how our bodies deal with them. There is hope!
I have been working out with a personal trainer twice a week, tri training, and playing ice hockey since Christmas. I started at 205 with 23% body fat. I now weigh 195, but with only 13% body fat. The weight is the same, but I have lost lots of fat and look and feel better. The best part is that I am much stronger on my bike now compared to last year.
Stick with it. Unfortunately, it won’t happen overnight unless you pay the big bucks for a little surgery. . .
