Why the white sunglasses and cycling?

I was wondering how trend started with the white sunglasses? Why are most guys/gals wearing them as opposed to the general black framed ones? Just a weird thing I’ve noticed that’s all.

I have about 4 pair of white Oakleys. Started about a year and a half ago, if not two years ago. Just a change, like most changes. I would guess that the trend started with the Sunglass Companies marketing them. Another source of revenue and of course, something different.

White sunglasses are often a good indicator of the wearer being a total tool. Strangely, the same does not apply when worn for cycling / running purposes though.

White makes your eyes faster.

I noticed a lot of the garmin guys doing this for the past couple of seasons with their Jawbones. I liked the look, so I ended up ordering a custom pair of all white jawbones last year. They are my favorite pair of sunglasses for riding.

Exactly this. You can look at more boobs more discretely.

To distinguish from triathletes

I got my white Oaks a couple of years ago to be different. Now I’m thinking of going back to black for the same reason.

Brad

i have a pair of white Jawbones that look sharp with my white helmet. I only wear them when cycling though.

I have 2 pairs of white Oakley sunglasses, one pair is the Gascan, the other is the STPL Jawbone with the World Championship stripes for cycling on them. I refuse to wear the Gascan’s anymore because I think every single douche wears them. That being said I wear my STPL Jawbones almost daily, and I have 2 other pairs of Jawbones so it’s not a preference thing. My guess is the white comes from the World Championship Jersey. Just my guess!!

My guess is it’s a good thing for the manufacturer as the production cost is slightly less, thus allowing the product to yield a better profit per unit.

HAHA i did the exact same thing. I got white von zipper sun glasses 6 years ago for the same reason and there still running strong…

I sold my black Jawbones to buy the white just because I really like the way the white ones look.

(Plus I secretly think that with my bald noggin I look like a short fatter version of Lieto)

white is fast

I associate the color with Cycling and bad-ass’s

I must admit though I associate it strictly with athletes, any normal human wearing a pair is just not hip

let’s look at some examples

Badass

Julien Absalon World Champ and rocks the white frames

Justin Biber, celebrity non athlete, this is anything but cool looking

Isn’t that what mirrored aviators are for?

very true. they don’t fit so well under a bike helmet and look a bit odd. Not quite as odd a sight as when you crash into a hedge or lampost after some casual ‘observing’ mind you.

I got mine for $15 at target. That is why they are white.

I exclusively wear 80s style aviators when I bike and run, they look cool

Those are the cleanest lenses I have ever seen. I wonder what spray he uses to clean them?

Justin bieber must have some transitions lenses. They are perfectly clear because he isn’t very bright.

on topic, I have a pair of white rudy project noyz with the red lenses and I got them mainly because they were red. I also like how they stick out. I agree with what someone else said in that they only look good on athletes.
