Why the heck does a P2K only have a seat tube bottle cage?

I just noticed this yesterday. There’s plenty of room for one on the down tube, just like on the similarly-shaped Soloist. Odd that there’s one on the seat tube, where it’s a hassle to reach. Huh. What gives? Guess it’s a mandatory aero bottle up front.

Maybe it would screw up the aerodynamics? Dunno. Cobb talks about the sail effect of a bottle on the downtube, but AFAIK he was only referring to round tubes.

I prefer the front bottle on my P2K but my wife runs a two bottle Minura (sp?) system behind her saddle. Neither of us have anything on the aero tubes.

Aerodynamics?

it does seem odd, since i’m pretty sure that the bottle cage bosses for the p3 are on the down tube, not the seat tube…but it makes sense not to have them on the curved seat tube.

I guess I am fussy, ok when it comes to my bike I am very fussy.

In my mind the biggest thing going against the P2K and Duel for that matter is the lack of drinkbottle mounts on the down tube.

Perhaps it does screw up your aerodynamics, but the down tube is the easiest place to grab a bottle from.

I think these bikes would be great for Ironman if they had downtube bottle mounts, Ironman is as much about drinking as cycling so your main bottle needs to be handy.

I know a front mount bottle would solve a lot of these issues. But I have a love hate relationship with aerobottles, sometimes I love them, sometimes I hate them…currently I hate them (don’t like wearing replacement drink).

I recall he did his test on a bike with aero tubes.

Another question is why doesn’t it not have a replaceable derailure hanger? I stumbled across my first real bike as being a cervelo and have been hooked since. Had the eyre tri now the 2003 p2k. Overall, I am very happy with the bike, but there are a few peculiar things about it.

Peace,

If that’s the biggest thing going against the P2K and the Dual, then I guess Gerard and the boys have done a great job. If you are that concerned about drinking during an IM, an aero bottle is definitely the way to go. I don’t know how you are getting replacement drink on yourself, but I personally find my aero bottle much less than messy than a normal bike bottle.

Seems really strange they don’t at least tap it and leave the option to the user. If you don’t want to use it, you can always just leave the bottle cage off. That’s the first really stupid thing I’ve found Cervelo to have done.

It’s not stupid, it makes perfect sense. Why have a downtube which has an airfoil section and at the end a bottle cage and a water bottle? For that you don’t need and airfoil shape! So the water bottle setup for the P2K, which is the right waterbottle setup anyway, is to have your bottles behind your seatpost.
