I’m a flat-footed heavy overpronator (9-10 degrees in stability shoes, 2-3 degrees in MC+). The most supportive shoes I’ve seen that are trail specific are stability or stability plus. I know the market isn’t probably terribly large for heavy flat-footed guys who want to run trails but you would think there is a small market for them. It would be nice to have some of the sole features of the trail shoes in MC. Why no love for us?
I might be way off base here, but my understanding is that since trails aren’t typically flat, level surfaces, controlling pronation isn’t as big of an issue. Anyone else care to chime in?
Exactly - no reason to try to control an unknown.
You are correct in your thinking. The “evil” pronation occurs mostly at the subtalar joint that needs to move all over the place during a true trail run. A high arched, rigid supinated foot type does not do well on unstable terrain since it can’t unlock well at the midtarsal and ankle sprains are common.
