Why no "lefty" single sided forks for road bikes?

Would it not be fairly simple to design a single sided front fork for road bikes similar to that employed on Cannondale’s mtb’s? If eliminating frontal profile is a key to being aero, and aero trumps weight, one could guess that the extra material required to reinforce the remaining side would be an acceptable weight gain, no?

Albert Bold from Bold Precision made such a fork many years ago and it looked quite interesting. Stiffness and stability I believe were an issue.

1-sided forks are illegal for UCI events.

UCI rules dictate deisgn today.

Im not so sure it would be more aero - look again at a lefty fork - theres basically 2 headtubes catching wind, from an aerodynamics point of view, the front on view of a lefty is a mess.

We’ll see how much the UCI has to say about anything anymore.

Interesting idea…but I believe that solves a problem that doesn’t exist. The Lefty is for MTB-specific scenarios.

I bet a road bike version would be too heavy.

They’ve been used before. Most notably on Boardmans original lotus trackbike in the OG.

Limited market and now illegal for UCI events.
