Why is this a scam?

I mean, it looks like a scam, but why is it? It looks like the seller has some positive feedback, but he does ask to e-mail him first. What points tip you off in here that make you believe it’s a scam? Why does he ask you to e-mail him first?

If it’s not a scam well then, I’m going buy 10 of 'em!

Any time you are supposed to contact the seller before bidding it’s a scam.

They will have you pay outside of ebay. Email them and try it.

yeah, but why??

my guess they will want your credit card number.

Better yet, tell them you live in NY and want to come and pick it up and pay cash
.

Free worldwide shipping is another point that gives it away.

Anytime I have ever seen the “contact me first” by email before paying via ebay/paypal it has always been a scam. Try to contact him and see what happens. Let us know.

Maybe because the “seller” has only 33 positive feedback stars but is currently selling 1090 items?

And every item is a 24 hours auction.

It is with a hijacked account that has been email phished for their password. Never log into you account for anything thru an email link. This is a result of a fake email telling someone to update their account and log in thru the link provided in the email. The scammers send out thousands and get a bite every once in a while. They use the accounts positve feedback to scam people.

and it looks like they hijack someone else’s ebay account. Try tto contact the ebay seller not the email address provided in the listing.

It is a scam because the seller is asking you to contact him through a direct email to gmail. Try and contact the the seller through the ebay link; not the gmail account. I bet they don’t even know this auction is there. As others have said, it looks like the seller’s account got hijacked. He hasn’t been very active lately and the last thing he sold was books. I almost fell for one these before.

Also, the length of the auction is too short. It looks like a one day auction. Any thing of high value (and almost always bikes) will be 3-7 days. The sellers need the more time to generate interest in high value items. Scams are usually short time auctions. The scammers hope to get it over before Ebay or the account owner notice.

Well, I emailed, response came back in less than five minutes:

Thank you for understanding and mailed me beofre takeing any auctions on ebay.
First thing i want to tell you that all my units are brand new in sealed box and come with all accesories included.
I’m a authorized dealer and i provide original warranty maded directly from the factory.
The best price that i can give you for this unit is 1000 US Dollars.
I have more than one unit available.I can provide big discounts if you will buy more than one unit.
The best way so we can close this deal is :
for the payment and shipping we will must to chose the fastest way and secure way so :
for the shipping : UPS express
and for the payment : Western union services because it is the fastest way to send money worldwide
To be 100% protected we will make this deal under ebay and if something goes wrong, you will receive all your money back including western union fees.
Shipping will be made from Europe by UPS and in 40 hours you will have it. I will pay the shipping and handling fees.
Do not bid on it because I have more units available and I do not want to make
more listings and pay more fees to eBay.
So if you are interesed please let me know asap and we can talk more about the discounts and your security if you will buy from me.

Best regards

Man, you are fast. I just got the same reply also. It was just minutes. This is definetly a scam.

So, the ebay page says the item is located in Pelham, New York. So, I asked where is the bike. I got this response back in about 2 minutes:

i;m from there but now i’m in europe i just opened a company here.

Does there seem to be any doubt? Any more questions I should ask this guy?

All the same, I am deeply saddened. I mean P3Cs for $1000, and if I buy several, he would give me deep discounts! What a deal!

I am so tempted!

Ya, tell him, its great that its in Europe, you will be there next week, where can you go to pick it up directly yourself.

Europe, yep that narrows it down pretty good, doesn’t it? It can’t be that big of a place, can it?

What are P3Cs retailing for these days anyway? Somewhere north of $3800, I’m guessing.

I just checked and ebay took the item offline
.

oooh, ooooh, tell him you just got your christmas bonus check for $2000, and you will gladly send him that. Ask if he will kindly refund you the extra $1000.
