Why is there brominated vegetable oil in Gatorade?

I like the flavor of Gatorade and it is easy for me to stomach after a workout to get in both fluids and electrolytes. I don’t have to mix it and its cheap. But, its not what it used to be. It seems different than it used to be. There is now brominated vegetable oil and glycerol ester of rosin. It tastes slimy. What’s the deal? Anyone have an easy alternative. I have tried the gatorade powder, but it tastes bitter. Suggestions?

BVO has been in the citrus flavored Gator Aid since the beginning. It has been used in nearly every citrus flavored soft drink forever as well.

Ester Gum is an alternative to BVO. Does the same thing.

I think Gator Aid just got more open with their label, they didn’t actually change anything.

From my wife, the Food Scientist…

“The glycerol is actually from the flavor, it is the carrier the flavor companies use. The bromated vegatable oil is probably added by Gatorade to keep the flavors in suspension so they don’t make an oil slick on top.”

It is the stuff that is NOT in HEED
.

Then that must be the stuff that keeps me from puking
.

X2! I think I’d rather drink piss than heed

Although I do think Powerbar Perform is my favorite. Doesn’t make me super bloated like gatorade.
