Why is CSC riding the soloist and not the r2.5?

I thought I remember seeing this discussed before, but I can’t find the thread. I rode a soloist and an r2.5 today, and the difference was astonishing. The 2.5 felt so much more nimble, light and responsive. The 2.5 seems a lot lighter than the soloist as well. I watched Felche Wallone today and saw Jens Voight grinding up the Mur and just didn’t understand why he wouldn’t ride the lighter 2.5. I’m wondering if there is something wrong with the 2.5 that they would’t ride it.

I would assume in Jen’s case when he’s basically TT’ing with Vino for 4.5 hours that aero would beat out weight.

gerard commented on this last week and reccommended the soloist for the majority of riding unless you are strictly doing an pure uphill ride.

Just got back from Tour de Georgia. CSC rode Soloists. Why not? It’s a great bike! I did see an R2.5 on the team car though.

Personally knowing the way Voigt rides if I saw him with a soloist I’d be keeping an eye on his back wheel for most of the day knowing full well he’d have a dig at some point…

Bobby J rode his 2.5 up Brasstown Bald, but I’m not sure if that was before or after his bout with mechanicals.

Jens said to Josh at Zipp that the Soloist with 808’s would be a great bike for attacking, but you “show your hand” when you pull up to the start line on that vs. a 2.5 with 303’s.
