Why I Hate White Cycling Clothing

Disclaimer: sponsored riders who do not pay for their team kits are exempt from this thread. Riders who try to emulate the latter by wearing white shoes, gloves, shorts and bar tape are not. Here goes:

  1. The shoes look like hammered dog meat after a few hundred kilometers - or your first ride in the rain.
  2. The gloves turn black after you change your first flat.
  3. The shorts show your (male) junk.
  4. The bar tape looks gross after one ride (no team mechanic here to change it for you when it gets dirty).

Despite the complete lack of function, why would you try to emulate the colors of pro team kits? Pros don’t have to pay for anything. They get new kits every season. They could wear gold lamé for all I care. My question is: why do so many “other riders” pay for white gear?

I’m not hating on anyone, just trying to understand the flawed “fashion over function” mindset. Vanity?

It’s faster!

I won’t do white shorts though. You can thank me now.

My thoughts precisely.

wait remind me how black bar tape functions better than white…

oh and white shoes. i didnt know the material was different. i thought it was just a matter of dyes and such. but since black shoes “function” better next time ill make sure to stay away from that shitty white material

you sound like a whiney little boy who doesnt want his gear to “look” dirty

take up your arguement with a washing machine you pompus idiot

Ok, Generally I agree with you. But that just dictates what I wear personally. Everyone else can do what they want for whatever reasons.

BUT, that pic you included. What was he thinking wearing white at a CX race? Isnt CX an hour of racing, and three hours of cleaning? He must have stock in a bleach company.

Thems be fightin’ words dude! I never called anyone an idiot. I even said I was not hating on anyone. I just don’t get white cycling clothing.

Please note you did not answer the question. Please explain why you are willing pay for a white kit.

Did I accidently stumbled into LetsRun.com again???

Please explain why you are willing pay for a white kit.

So I can show off my tatts…

I see. They are the “fashion conscious” people. The “fashion victims”. Who prefer “fashion over function”. But you aren’t “hating” on them or anything. Nope. Makes perfect sense.

Please, tell me how the function is impaired by white clothes that don’t look white enough for you. Because the fact that this bothers you enough to actually start a thread is proof enough that fashion matters quite a bit to you.

Ever tried fixing a flat tire while wearing a solid white kit?

You didn’t answer the original question btw. What motivates people to buy white kits?

Aside from getting dirty, white stuff functions the same as black stuff. Who cares?

Some people like white? Does it really matter?

Awesome! I think I will use that from now on.

I have never worn a solid white kit so no. Is it somehow physically more difficult? Please explain

You didn’t answer my question either. I’ll put it more directly. Aside from caring about fashion, what motivates someone to care?

Because you are hijacking my thread.

what motivates anyone to buy any color of a kit??

first off i dont have a white kit, i have white bar tape on my roadie though and i did that because it looks cool with the white accents on the frame. i also have white shoes because thats the only color they had, but as it turns out i like they way they look in white.

what are you trying to derive from the answer to your question. what is your end goal? i am not so sure i see a point to this post other than for you to give ur opinion on a subject that is so obviously subjective.

It seems like the title of this thread should be “Why I hate people that wear white cycling clothing”
.

haha yeah and how can you justify yourself when you say im the one on the attack…your post has the word “hate” in it

youre the one whos aggressive here
.

Because you are hijacking my thread.
By asking you to explain your question? You spoke of fashion over function. So where does “function” play a role here? I’m sure not the only person asking. Don’t you have an answer?
