Seems like a good idea all around with easy access for training apps and development. Only firmware/software updates needed to add the support? I’m sure there is a market for this as a good many homes have one of these game systems.
I’m guessing that people who own both a smart trainer and a new gaming system make up a very small intersection of two very small circles in a venn diagram. Probably just not worth the development for the few thousand people who would use it.
I thought of that, But as someone who doesn’t even Play video games and owns a Playstation 4 and 2 Xbox ones for media purposes I figured there would be a lot more like me that would love to forgo setting up the laptop.
Well my old Pre-smart LCD’s are holding up great for now…knock on wood…and no I got them off ebay so didn’t pay anywhere near that…200 a piece as compared to a newer roku or whatever at 100 or so…and they have more capabilities plus blu-ray and a free international chat system.
I guess that’s fair. I have been thinking about trading my xbox 1 for a PS4 but I can’t really justify it because I feel I will lose money on the deal and I don’t game enough as it is.
Game systems are like bikes…you always lose money…better get the use out of them…lol…anyway I think it may be a case of not much crossover interest like was suggested. But I just thought there could be some great stuff developed…
Ohhh…The kids play games during the winter as well so they get some game use as well
Development costs for console “games” are much higher than that a PC or Phone app due to the QC and licensing fees for consoles. Add in the hardware issues and it’s a small market. Many of the people making software are pretty small and it’s a sideline to their real business of fitness. Plus my pain cave is not where my console is. I suspect that’s the same for a lot of people.
I’m part of that very small circle. Use the PS4 for watching TV and playing a game or two in my very little spare time. PSVue is pretty great. $35/month for live TV and DVR.
It would be awesome to have Zwift run on it – it is essentially a quite capable PC for running Zwift and my current PCs require low graphic settings on Zwift. All that being said, I’m most liking going to Trainer Road for training. Power meter controlled ERG mode still hasn’t made it to Zwift…
I mean seriously…if they can support “ROCK BAND” or “GUITAR HERO”
Imagine the possibilities if Zwift or a company like EA picked up TDF, Ironman or added MTB singletracks. Plus workout apps such as Trainerroad and Sufferfest.
I bet the circle of intersection is bigger than most think. I have a grown child still living at home with a state of the art gaming system attached to the same system I have the trainer and music attached to. His use of it is starting to slow down but very soon I will grand kids that will want to come over and play games.
I’ve never played the games, but I’m pretty sure I will have a state of the art system in my house until I die.
Yup, same here. We own an XBox 360, and XBox One and some Nintendo thing. I never use them, but two of them are in the same room as my trainer. Zwift on the big screen in a way that doesn’t force me to drag my laptop up there and plug in a handful of cables? Yes.
