Why do this?

So, I’m perusing eBay a bit ago and came across this ad for a QR Caliente. Anyway, I clicked on the link to more pics and the wheels had been “cut” around the valve stem area. See the link below:

Why would you cut around the area? Also, what would it do to the structural integrity?

If anyone is interested in the bike, the eBay ad is here:

I have absolutely no link to this bike, but thought I’d share.

Kevin

he probably never heard of valve extenders.

If this is a carbon fairing on an aluminum wheel it won’t effect structural at all and saves you the hassle of a valve extender. If its a carbon wheel then forget it. I’d expect its more likely the former. I had a set of 60mm Hed Jets and should have thought of that myself since they were a carbon fairing. I remember once showing up for a race and forgot my valve extender and was scrambling everywhere to find one…

wow what a dumb dick. Not sure what it would do to the structural integrity since the carbon is essentially a fairing (assuming the spokes don’t bind to the carbon). He essentially made those wheels worthless.

wow. whan an idiot. Real Design Whees are fairing type construction, but still, for the cost of a $7 valve extender he has ruined those. BTW I’d think that would create a lot of drag.
