Why do some tri shorts have such a low waist?

From a related post, I was wondering why some tri shorts have such a low waist? There are several makes i’d like to try out, but have no interest in hanging my pubes out for general review. Desoto comes to mind(sorry, Emilio)

And before my favorite smart a$$ says it, real men don’t shave their pubes. Trim, sure. Shave, never.

I’ll suggest is is a bit of a fashion que from other apparel and a smack of function since the hip-huggers are a little cooler perhaps and don’t “cut” you at the waist. You gotta have the bod for them though.

Low rise are the best b/c they do not “cut” you at the middle when in a tight aero position. I hate high-waisted shorts for that very reason.

Emilio knows how to cut a pair of shorts!

^ correct - for a tri

Same reason bike racers prefer bibs.

Agree fully

Same here, I tried a set of low rise finally, as I was always finding myself folding down the top inch or so on my regular tri shorts. Once you get past the feeling like you’re going to self-pants yourself and realize they’re not going to fall down unexpectedly the low rise make a more comfortable short.

I’ve only tried Desoto and have no reason to try another.

I dunno but that’s why I wear a one piece or tri bib.

True dat. If Emilio ever stops making shorts with the low-cut waist, I’ll quit doing tris. Well… probably not, but I will cry.

Why dd Emilio make the 2011 forza high waisted? The 2010 was low cut.

  1. It’s closer to the cut of a swimsuit.

  2. It doesn’t get in the way of bending over on the bike.

  3. By sitting at the hips it eliminates muffin top.

  4. It’s easier to belly breathe.

That being said, I’d love a pair that was low cut, but an extra 1" higher in the back to avoid possible plumber’s crack when bent over on the bike.

The Riviera? Lol its not high waisted… the old one was just incredibly low waisted. He just moved it from low low cut to low cut.

Bibs are better. If you have not tried them, give them a shot.

I need to get some value out of the core workouts I do… what good is spending 35% of my training time doing hanging situps and 135lb. weighted incline crunches if I can’t show sex lines?

In addition to what everyone else said I find they stay up in my crotch area better by using the low cut and the drawstring in them.

Well, have you seen the size of Michael Raelert’s love-handles when he pulls his shorts up properly?

I agree for another reason… I don’t have a plumbers crack but I did get a good sunburn that looks like a tramp stamp :frowning:
