Why 165mm Crank so hard to find?

Don’t they produce enough 165mm cranks for every needs out there?
I’m looking for a set and they’re hard to find.

You’re looking in the wrong places.

short cranks are a new fad, market hasn’t adjusted yet.

plus everyone has a psychological problem with things being ‘smaller’. Look at 650 wheels, same thing there. “baby wheels” - “training wheels” -“they go slower”

people don’t understand physics =)

people think they are going to ‘push a big gear’ and need ‘more leverage’

they don’t understand that the cassette gives them all the leverage they want.

+1

The market may never “adjust.” Yes, it is a growing trend, but it is still a pretty small niche within a smaller segment of the overall category.

IOW, those looking for cranks smaller than 170 are a small sliver of the triathlon segment of the overall crank market, which is dominated by road bikes (and road bike mantra / tradition).
.

start putting brain worms into crit racer’s ears about short cranks for tight corners and maybe we can get this growing more =)

That’s why God created Speedplays…

Ditto, not much of a need or market. Pretty much the only people that actually benefit from short cranks are TT triathletes that ride very low. Thats a tiny fraction of the crank market which is divided up amongst all sorts of other standards, bolt circle BB type etc.

Almost no shop is going to stock them, but they are readily available on line. Back when almost every crank fit every bike they were probably more readily available.

You ok with using a square taper bottom bracket?

Try probikekit.com or chainreaction cycles. They usually have a pretty decent selection, and pricing is good.

any bike shop should be able to order you a 165mm crankset. If you want to buy a used one and save some coin set up a saved-search on ebay and that way you will get new listings daily automatically emailed to you.

I don’t recall having any issues sourcing SRAM Red 165mm cranks. I bought mine from CRC. Of course it might just be a timing issue with new stock not shipping yet.

eBay. I bought a Dura Ace 165mm for $165. 7800 mont and the BB

I feel like unless you’re looking on the used market only, 165mm cranks are pretty easy to find. I’m rocking Red in 165mm.

You nailed it. Most people just don’t understand gear ratios, crank lengths, etc and how all the different components work together!

we have plenty of 165s, and we’re actaully getting our first shipment of 160, 155 and 150mm later this week

Combine them with the Q-rings and they are the bomb!

There are plenty of 165mm cranksets on ebay in the mid level range and a couple of the high end models especially with compact rings. The standard are more rare and you need to search often for used. I’m in the market for a set myself.
