WASHINGTON (AP) – The government has abruptly ended an inquiry into the warrantless eavesdropping program because the National Security Agency refused to grant Justice Department lawyers security clearance.
Oversight is handled by the various Inspectors General. Hayden spoke to the press a while back and noted that there had not been a single internal complaint inside the NSAabout potential problems with the monitoring program.
You can be confident you have upstanding patriots like Mary McCarthy covering your back.
Edited to question why it is you refer to international phone calls as domestic?
CNN’s story just illustrates that the Left in this country can’t, or won’t, understand that IT’S NOT ILLEGAL TO DO THIS (so-called “domestic spying”).
And who’d trust those clowns in the Congress to do anything with this but which they’ve done, which is run crying like a wuss (Pat Leahy) to the press about it national security issue.
Well, how about a more honest answer? Something along the line of referring to monitoring of international communications as domestic spying in order to confuse the issue and fan outrage.
Back in the day when I made a lot of phone calls internationally, the last adjective that would come to mind is domestic. Yet that is the first adjective of choice in this context. That is not because you favor accurate descriptions.
That is not because you favor accurate descriptions.
Right, because I’m the one that started this thread. Get with the program here Art, I was just explaining to you that while they are only (supposedly) monitoring international calls those calls either originate or terminate in the US and therefore the spying is being done domestically.

Oh, well that’s cool, then. The people carrying out the spying aren’t complaining about it, so it must be AOK. Gotcha.
But wasn’t there some judge who complained about it?
**Hayden spoke to the press a while back and noted that there had not been a single internal complaint inside the NSAabout potential problems with the monitoring program. **
Do you think that they may not complain about it because they are the ones doing it?
I love how we’re supposed to believe there haven’t been any internal complaints (even though we know it isn’t true) because Hayden says so. The Dept of Justice doesn’t have security clearance to look into it, but trust us- there haven’t been any complaints.
Course, this isn’t exactly unprecedented. Not only does the Justice Dept lack the proper clearance to investigate, so does Congress. Oh, and so does the Inspector General.

You do realize that everytime we talk about this, we are helping the terrorists.
There were plenty of issues with the program brought up within government with repeated reviews and audits by the Justice Department under the Attorney General. The program even got shut down briefly as a result.
There is probably a lot more program review than there is program.

That can’t be right. There weren’t even any internal complaints about the program. Even Hayden said so.

Art, they just stopped the Justice Dept. investigation because of clearance “issues.” They claim that the Congressional oversight committees don’t have the proper clearances. There’s a report that the Inspector General doesn’t have the proper clearance. Who’s doing all this program review?
They stopped a Justice Department investigation, not all Justice Department review. Those legal briefs supporting the program came from Justice.
This program gets reviewed by the Attorney General and reauthorized by the President every 45 days.
It gets reviewed by the Intelligence Committees of both houses of Congress and the Congressional leadership of both parties.
More reveiw than program.
Hayden’s comments about no complaints were strictly limited to NSA, and offered to suggest that he seriously doubted the leaks came from that agency. I found that comment very persuasive.
There are all sorts of Mary McCarthy type people in the loop. Just pick up a copy of the NY Times or the Washington Post for verification of that fact.
