Who's the Best Bike Fitter in SF Bay Area, CA

I want to go in for a really good bike fit but I am not sure where to go. I live in the SF Bay Area.

What kind of bike? Where, exactly are you (north, south, east, peninsula)?

Kraig sold transition sports. It is now or soon to be Montano Velo. I bought my bike there. Paid for a P2k and after a loooong wait see the “where’s my bike?” thread, I got a P2SL. Very happy with bike and fit even though I was not fit by Kraig.

I am in the East Bay. I had heard of Transition Sports but it sounds like that is not an option now.

Chuck down at Livermore Cyclery in Dublin is pretty good. He has fit a number of really good triathletes (current and former pros). He is not a FISTer, though.

Forward Motion in Danville is a crapshoot. I don’t know if there is anyone there that has formal training.

Further north in Davis you have Wheelworks. When Larsen owned the place, you could get a solid fit, but I am not sure that is the case anymore. They do have more tri bikes than just about anyplace.

Finally, and Cathy you may have to help here, there is a guy that put together Hypercat Racing - I can’t for the life of me remember his name - that used to sub for Krag at Transition Sports. He may be able to make a house call.

It is amazing that in a place like the SF Bay Area there aren’t any shops that you can go to that specialize in tri bikes and specifically tri bike fit. Hinds57 should open one up…

I’d second that. Got me to a CdA near .22 with little sacrifice in power.

I had Chris Kautz fit me - $350. He did a nice job but I was hoping for a more “quantitative” fit - he kind of just eyeballs your fit. He doesn’t hook you up to a Computrainer to see if a different position increases wattage, etc. Good experience but I’m not sure its worth $350.

Philip Casanta (sp?). He fit me on my P3 a couple years back. He was a big proponent of KOPS at the time…not sure what his opinion might be now.

Christopher Kautz at PK Racing … hands down, not even close and worth the money if you are in the sport long term! www.pkracing.com

Phil fit me also at Transition Sports last year. I would go back today If I bought another bike. Here is his web site.

Krag did NOT sell Transition Sports. He closed the brick and mortar and is selling online, AND he is doing bike fits. Jason and Montano Velo are still there.

krag@transitionsports.com will get him.

another vote for Coach Phil…

Phil did both of my fits at his place in Richmond. Very happy with it.

That’s who did my fit. Jason. My first fit and it still feels good. I haven’t felt the need to shimmy around much cept for unconciously sliding forward like in dev pauls thread.

I believe Tim Sheeper in Menlo Park/Redwood City is a FIST fitter. www.teamsheeper.com

Endurance Mill Valley. Of course I work there so I might be biased. Check it out at www.endurancemillvalley.com

One more vote for KP Racing. Chris Kautz is an artist. The other guys are just frontin’

Is he the guy that put that broken seatpost on your bike?
