Who's racing Memphis in May this weekend?

Me, my wife, and Chris McCormack (Ha!) will be there, not that we have any connection.

Any new thoughts on the course, venue, or water temp? Looks like it will be a warm one (high 80’s).

Anyone else doing the Amateur Challenge (mtn. bike tri on Saturday / Oly on Sunday)? We are.

I’ll be doing my 21st memphis may in a row.
It looks like going to be warm one humid as well.
Hard to tell on wetsuits just yet with the cool temps and rain last week.

Time trial start on swim which is nice makes for comfortable swim. Current bike course(from other years) is half mile or so short. run has some hills
turnaround(out and back) is top of a hill.
Bike course has lot’s of turns…
This course came about when naval base(inland)
stopped allowing us to cut through the middle after 9/11. Old bike used to be out and back and you could fly if wind was at your back coming back.
Current course has about 20 turns(counting couple next to transition) so can make for slow bike.
If your older and start in later wave could be bit warmer on run and you could have quite a few to pass who started earlier if you fast biker.

Great food(barbeque) and beer afterwards nice atmosphere…

Good luck…

One of the best races in the world, and I hate to be missing it for the first time in 4 years. Love this race, and the finish line eats and drinks. Good luck.

Don’t quite understand this part. What waves? How are the race number assigned? By age? Time of registration? Random?

Sorry not exactly wave (or one person waves).

Memphis is a time trial start after pros and relays.

Pros I think go 15 seconds apart.

Age groupers are 3 seconds apart.

That means each person starts 3 seconds behind the other person. They also number you by age.
meaning if your 40 you start before 41 year olds and so on. if same age it’s alpabetical so if 10 guys are 40 then within that group it’s by last name.

Not sure which ages go first used to be youngest to oldest but they move it round from year to year.

hope this helps

Numbers are issued on a age group format. So, you’ll still start your entire age group just one right after another bf the next age group begins. For instance, 400-750 could be 30-34, those numbers will line up in numerical sequence and then start in tt format.

I’ll be there, along with you, your wife, and Chris.

I did the MTB tri last year. Will do the Oly this year.

Sprained my ankle a few weeks ago, haven’t been running. Was going to just swim, bike, and drop out - but yesterday I went out and ran, felt okay. Ran 6 miles - might as well do the whole race! Could be a little tough during the run on virtually no run training/no bricks. We’ll see how it goes.

Cool. I didn’t know that about the age order for the start. I guess with a last name Wolfe, I’ll have just about my whole age group to chase. Nice! I like that.

the alphabetical is within the same age.
So if your last year of age group say 40-44 and your 44 and your name is wolfe yep your close to last to go. If your 40 and last name wolfe only those age 40
and alphabetically in front of you will start front.
it will go like this all 40 year olds then all 41 year olds then 42,43 and so on and then alphabetical within… now thats how they’ve done it past few years they could change it…

Good luck sunday looks like gonna be a hot one.

Is the start order also gendered based (i.e. M30-34, then F30-34, then M35-39, etc…) or is it just 30-34 then 35-39 both male and female.

Inside Triathlon will be there doing video coverage; ultimately forming a 3-5 minute clip for www.insidetri.com .

Race fast!

Lars

I’ll be there for the float, TT, walk…

Can you sign up for the MTB tri on Sat AM? I’m not signed up yet as I’m unsure whether I’ll be down Friday night or Sat AM.

Anyone?

Thanks!

According to the website there are still slots for the mtn. bike tri.

I’ll be there. This is my 4th time, hope the water is at least 75, I don’t have a wet suit. Although, it was way colder than that the first time I did the race. Love this race was the first tri I ever did.

Don

Yes. You won’t see a girl standing in front of you.

Anybody have an idea what the water temp is? Has it been warm in Memphis? Kinda hoping for no wetsuits.

Better be wetsuits or else I’ll need my waterwings. Haven’t swam since Ironman last fall. Yikes!

It’s getting hotter and the high Sat and Sun will be around 90. Maybe the lake is fed by a cold water spring?

nope, just a dammed up creek. Not very deep or large either, so it warms up quickly.

Arrived in Memphis this morning. First time at this race–I’m looking forward to it. Wetsuit legal or not doesn’t really matter to me. Not crazy about all the turns on the bike course, but it is what it is.

See everyone there…
