Who's old "piece of equipment" still gets used constantly?

'89 Cannondale road bike - steel fork, quill stem, 7-spd down tube shifters, 126mm rear spacing. I’ve got so many miles and so many good memories on that bike that I could never get rid of it. The only original component is the 105 brake calipers.

Just last summer I sold a 1988 Pinarello Treviso. Some of the original Campy parts (sorry record10ti) got replaced with Ultegra along the way but she was pretty much the original fuselage. And she still ran some of the carbon/titanium/exotics into the ground when I sold her.-he says with a hint of regret-

How about two pairs of blackbottom (real) chamois shorts from 1984. I don’t wear em all the time anymore, but they are still serviceable. You can’t really find chamois cream like the old stuff, but I grease up (all my shorts) with “udder balm” bought at the local feed store. ahh that’s livin!

In Sport tri shorts. getting loose around the waist cause they have to work so hard these days, but to be crude, they keep my boys comfy and happy. 1995 (3 IM, 4 1/2 IM and heaps o’ Olympic races)

Brooks TriFlare racing flats. Circa 1994. Hardly ever used cause they don’t fit my orthotics and I don’t race short any more. I keep them around when I want to try and set a 5km PB (about very 2 years I try, just to see how slow I’ve got)

My own knees and hips!! for now. hips will need replacement soon but I’ll try to get this IM thing out of my system first

Wow,

This thread really is about gear, I thought it was going to about “equipment”. Anyway, here is my entry. One of my favorite pieces of training and racing gear is a pair of Duofold lycra stretch tights circa 1978. I got them on a pro deal while on Ski School at Mammoth Mtn. The waist band is separated but I don’t care, they are absolutely the most comfortable and versatile thin tights you could own. I still wear them for warmer conditions under my nordic or snowboard pants as they are too ratty to be an outer layer anymore. I’ll just die when they finally wear out.

my zipp front brake - circa 1997?

The worst I ever got was 2002, when I raced with: Centurion Dave Scott Ironman Master (1988), Baracuda swim goggles (1984), Singlet from my first 10K in LaPalma, CA (1983), Aleeda wetsuit with lycra short sleeves (1988), water bottle cage (1984). Those items were replaced in my Great Spending Spree of 2002.
Even today I’m still using: Transition area towell (1986), U.S. flag to mark my bike rack (1988), and a stars & stripes bike jersey (1984).
Am I nostolgic or cheap?..yes.

Cool… Almost all your things are older than I am (1987). All my racegear is new for the upcoming season, thanks to my sponsors… www.larsschmidt.dk

Echoing several others. . .my Silca Track Pump. Indestructable and rebuildable. Better 'n a Timex.

You’re talking about stuff in the garage, right …?

1990 Nissan Sentra with a 1986 vintage bike rack. Don’t have anything from the 80’s since I only started running in 1982 and tri in 1994. My 1997 Giant road bike has had everything replaced but the stickers.

All my other 1961 vintage equipment is still working fine, no replacements or upgrades needed.

O’Neill Scott Tinley sleeveless wetsuit, 1988. Still use it in training sometimes on hot days when I want to be seen by boats when going open water (it is neon yellow)

When I was in Grade 7 in about 1970 I bought my first 10 speed (A Peugeot) using my paper route money. I bought some tools as well, two of which I still have and regularly use: a small adustable wrench and a multi-purpose bike wrench. The tools have been around the world a few times over the past 34 years.

Depending on the course, Scott Extreme handlebars ('94) or 100K bars ('94). Too bad no one has come out with anything as light (440g total bar set up) or as comfortable to me. Circa '88 24 hole Saavadra 245g rim laced to a Bullseye hub with aero spokes. My Aerolite Ti pedals ('86) but only on my coffee shop bike. Of course, my Silca track pump ('86), and Campy silca pump head on my Silca frame pump.

My Aerolite Ti pedals ('86) but only on my coffee shop bike.

Geez, weren’ those the ones with the huge socket that went on your shoes, impossible to walk in (and Tinley complained about getting stuck on a toilet flusher at the gas station)? I’m waiting to hear someone say they still show up in their Oakley Factory Pilots and one of those foam Giro helmets with the lycra cover.

… a pair of Barracuda swim goggles… circa 1986 and a number belt (although, definately on it last legs) circa 1984.
