Who's old "piece of equipment" still gets used constantly?

I was thinking the other day as I pumped up my tires before a ride, that I have been using the same Zefal Husky floor pump for the last 17 years before every single ride…clearly the vetran of my equipment list. Obviously it was worth it to buy at the high end (even though I could barely afford it at the time) for something that is going to be around that long.

I thought it would be an interesting topic…

What is the oldest piece of triathlon equipment you have that you use all the time?

I’d have to go with my Zefal Husky as well - 12 years and still going strong. Even the hose & plunger are still original (I finally had to replace the head after not being able to find spare gaskets any more). Sounds like I can count on a minimum of 5 more years.

1969 vintage Silca track pump has pumped up every tire at my house and at races going on 4 decades. I have replaced washers and hoses several times, but man that thing keeps pumping. G

With a title like that I had to look.

My ex destroyed my old Silca pump, and I was dirt poor at the time, so I had replaced it with an old Schwinn shop pump that lasted another five years. After I had destroyed about half of her Anne Rice collection in retaliation, she knew that her face would have been next if she had even layed a finger on my bike. I had bought several cheapo pumps over the next ensuing years.

What old piece of equipment- my Sweet Wings cranks. I love these things and I hope they never rust out, because I will never find another pair I like as well for weight and stiffness.

Wow…my oldest part also is a Silca pump…I am as much a Silca Nazi as I am a Campy Nazi
.

My '92 Mazda truck still gets me to the races. Come to think of it, my wetsuit, clothing and shoes are the only things made after the turn of the century in my race arsenal.

My Silca pump bit the dust finally last year. It was from 1987. The other item from 1987 that is still going strong is my Dave Scott Centuriorn Ironman bike. A new back wheel and regular tune-ups, but the bike was used by me until last summer (trainer bike). Now it’s in Kansas with my nephew.

How did you kill a Silca pump? I have replaced damn near every part of mine (Crack pipe, gaskets, hose)…but no tubes, guages, handles or anything.

It was my old Barracuda goggles but I got made fun of so I got new goggles.

“Crack pipe?” Should I smoke the crack before or after inflating my tires?

maybe your swimming has improved because of the goggles - if a bike can make you faster…

Me!!

Possible.

I still have my first pair of ‘sweeds’ hard plastic goggles from 1986, my freshman year in high school. I don’t use them for anything but races as they are fairly trashed and new pairs can be had for $4 but these are the only thing I have that I am supersticious about and they work fine. Not many other goggles out there last a season let alone years. I also have my Speedo swim bag from 1990 that I now use as my race bag. That thing has been used extensively and has held up nicely.

After thinking about it some more, other veterans (spelled it right this time):
Tyr swim cap (silicon): ~10 years, every pool workout
Dracor googles: ~ 4 years
Toe straps from MY original Dave Scott Centurian circa 1986 (for spare tubular).
10 years on my pedals and shoes but replaced them this year.

I wear a pair of spandex/lycra running shorts (IN Sport) under my running shorts to prevent chafing. I’ve the same 2 pairs for 4 years. I swear they’re indestructable. The problem is, I run 4 days a week so they get pretty nasty, especially the weeks I forget to wash them.

Thanks for sharing Tom…

Exage 400 rear derailleur from 1988, started life on a 6-spd freewheel, now shifting over an 8-spd DuraAce cassette. Someday I’ll buy another der, but just can’t find a reason to…
