Lionel Sanders is set to compete in an indoor triathlon in Hamilton, Ontario, on Feb, 18 (afternoon). The format is as follows: 15 min swim for distance - 5min transition - 15 min ride for distance - 5 min transition - 15 min run for distance. Total distance wins!
The race will be at McMaster University - swim in the McMaster 25m pool. Bike on stationary bikes set up beside the running track. The run will be on the 200m indoor track. Athletes will race in seeded waves of 14 - 16 per wave/heat.
We are looking into Live Streaming this, and would be curious to know how many people will tune in?
Lionel will be in the Elite/Invitational wave of 14 - 16 men and women, and we would stream this wave from start-to-finish with commentary and interviews before and after.

I’d potentially tune in depending on if it’s convenient to do so. Way more likely to watch if after the fact, NOT as a highlight reel but in it’s entirety. 5 min highlight videos don’t pass the time on the trainer very well
Steve, how are the points allocated per stage. Also how are the bikes calibrated. In theory the bigger you are, the further you’ll push a stationary bike because your top line watts are going to be high and you don’t get penalized for having a large hole in the wind. It would be better if you allocated bike points based on distance per per kilo as a proxy for a 15 min watts per kilo test assuming all bikes calibrated the same. If not, some massive 250 lbs football player kid with some basic endurance should be able to dust Lionel on the bike leg.
If so…Just an FYI Lionel will get his ass handed to him by a couple of juniors.

Why?
We had an indoor tri last year and the keisers are based on RPM and flywheel speed…the screen goes blank at 140. So the fastest way to accumulate the most distance is to put it on level 2-4 and spin at 137-139.
We did fixed distance, IIRC 10 keiser units. All the fast times were by juniors who could just spin like mad, combine that with a lot of these kids being on the swim team…well you could imagine how the results turned out for the adults…but just a fun event.
It’s actually quite fun because it levels the playing field for the bike. Talking 100 pound kids having the fastest bike split.
As good as LS is I’m not so sure he can spin at 140 for 15 minutes.
Indoor tris are so much fun. Not sure how fun to watch though.
This triathlon in Bordeaux was 25 years ago. I thought it was awesome to watch then and now. Pool in the middle of the velodrome track. Maybe Simon Lessing will come on here and tell us all the stories.

Take the back. This is pretty cool but it wasn’t exactly how I was expecting indoor triathlons to be. The stationary bikes can be real crapshoots, and the runs if on treadmills as well. If Lionel has some competition it could be exciting. Having Allen, Lessing, and Bevan like that really made it for me.
Steve. what would it take to have an indoor tri at the Milton Velodrome like this one that they did in Paris in 1993. Put a pool in the middle and make them run on the outside of the pool and inside of the track:
