Who Uses A Chamois Towel vs. Reg. Bath Towel

Anyone use a chamois towel out of the shower, post workout, instead of a regular cotton towel? If so…

  1. How well does it work?
  2. What do you recommend?

Do you mean one of those microfibre type towels? I use one when I cycle to work as it takes up a lot less space than a regular towel. Does the job but not as nice, leaves you feeling a little damp.

yep, that’s what I was referring to…and for similar reason(s). Looking for less bulk and fast drying.

I have one for drying off between swims at meet’s, but for day to day, a cotton towel is better. I have a couple old old beach towels that aren’t all that thick, when folded they aren’t much bigger than the microfibre one.

I use the chamois towel to dry off after shower at the gym, then drape it over the passenger seat in the car and leave the window cracked open. I get about 7-8 showers that way out of the same towel before I feel like I need to throw it in the wash.

It’s definitely not the nice feel of a cotton towel, but fits in better with my gym bag and eliminates some of the fuss. YMMV.

I have Chamois in my swim bag as a back-up for when the juvenile delinquents at the pool steal my cotton towel. Haven’t had to use it for a while.

I was digging through my camping gear a few weeks ago, realized I had a few of these, and grabbed one thinking, “this is perfect for the gym instead of the regular towel.” I threw it in my bag, went to swim, showered, and wrapped it around me. I realized it was basically mini-skirt size.

Moral of the story: Get a big one.

I use a Chamois towel while deployed because they take up less room. At home I use a normal towel.

I use a Waves Gear towel. The team I’m on was sponsored by them last year so we got one for free. I didn’t think much of it and kept it in my car. I forgot a towel one day and needed to use it. Love it. It’s a large enough towel that I can wrap around me and then some, really absorbent and compact when folded up. Dries fast too.

I have an XXL version from a travel store, same size as a bath towel. Folds small but it sticks to you a bit when drying. Dries as well as a standard towel. A standard cotton towel has a much nicer feel but is bulkier.

If you need to save space then get one, if not don’t bother as the standard towel is nicer.

I have one I use for work stuff when we are out in the field- packs down small and dries quicker than a cotton towel- that being said it is very unsatisfying to dry off with because it doesn’t leave you completely dry. It (like a chamois on a car) leaves you slightly damp but in an arid climate that usually takes care of itself quickly.

I use a “super absorbent” microfiber yoga towel for swimming, A bit bigger than a beach towel, but packs down much smaller. And it’s definitely super-absorbant, it really sucks the water out of my (long) hair.

It’s more of a terry-cloth looped material, rather than chamois-like, but it’s synthetic instead of cotton. I’m very happy with it

Never liked the feel of the chamois towels like Speedo. I use a regular cotton towel 99% of the time.
If forget it at home or didn’t pick one up at the desk in the Rec Center…then I use my t-shirt, which is rarely more than 1-2x a year.

A nice Egyptian Cotton Bath Towel should do the job for you. We can only afford so much luxury and getting something like this is REALLY nice. By the way, you should get a towel warmer as well. Makes for a nice warm fluffy towel, especially nice if you keep your room cool.

I have used one for years, no problem. A regular towel is more comfortable so I use one whenever I am at a place with towel service (the YMCA), but for masters practice and most out of town sessions I have the chamois.

I have a Bodyflik and I like it. It doesn’t replace a towel but gets about 80% of the water off.

I mostly use it when I do open water swims since a bit of sun takes care of the rest.

I have a chamois towel in my swim bag. I generally use it only for swim meets when I am in and out of the pool often. A regular cotton towel would be soaked by the end of the day. Using the swim towel soaks up most of the moisture so my cotton towel can last all day. To summarize, they work best in combination with a cotton towel.

I recommend just forgoing the towel altogether. Instead, prop one leg up on the sink and using a blow dryer to blow off the man bits. It’s very liberating.

I also have a Waves Gear towel. I don’t use it at home because I love big, fluffy towels, but I take it everywhere with me and it’s awesome. It’s the 27.5" x 55" size.
