Who makes the most aero alum front?

I’m soooooooo tired of cracking carbon rims that I’m considering going back to alum unless I can find an older Specialized Trispoke.

Who makes the most aero? Mavic Cosmic maybe?

kinlin makes a 30, then you’ve got the velocity deep v as well.

Felt’s aluminum wheel is pretty deep and according to superdave (felt’s web presence here) is pretty aero.

Or just buy a set of performance titans. Cheap and pretty darn fast.

Hed Jet 90. Is IS an aluminum wheel…it just doesn’t look like it!

I cracked my carbon front last season. I will be getting a set of Velocity wheels for training and still race with that front. They come in a lot of cool colors too.

No shit? C’mon? I had no idea that was alum, but damn if I’m not interested now!

its an aluminum rim with a carbon fairing glued on
.

the carbon fork is a nice enough upgrade to just buy a new one if it breaks if you ask me
.

It definitely shouldn’t be. The rim is identical to the HED Ardennes, just with said carbon ‘covering.’ I’ve raced mine through relatively treacherous courses and been VERY happy with them!

I don’t know how aero they are, but hson+ has a 43 mm aluminum rim. I think Giant uses them on their entry level tri-bike.

The Shamal has been tested against some other aero wheels and results posted to this forum or BTR saying its pretty darn fast. 12 spokes is the fewest it was made with but there is 16 spoker on eBay currently: link.

I looked at that…can you say 28 negative buyer feedbacks in the last year? Um…not:)

What is hson+ ?

true, didnt see that, but that is out of almost 1100 transactions.

Keep looking for one of those, I think that would be the best alum aero wheel-----maybe someone here has one sitting in a garage?

Both Hed and the Mavic Carbones use a fairing. It truly is an Al rim. The carbon is non-structural.

Otherwise, the AC 420 is very deep, as well as the 40mm Al rims that you can buy a la carte or on a Felt and a few other brands.

The Zipp 101 looks promising, but that don’t seem to be many actual reviews of them yet.

from the BTR report that is a couple years old, the highest rated alu wheel was the Shamal. then the Rolf vigor, then the AC420. All kinda close, but the shamal was a much higher aero rating than any other alu wheel. its weight was its downfall.

the velocity deep v’s did not do that well at all.

I just got SRAM’s new S30 AL Sprint front wheel a few weeks ago. Nicely built. 30mm depth. Has the toroidal rim from ZIPP who they now own, similar to the 101’s but a lot less money. Sapim spokes with internal nipples, standard rim width, nice ZIPP Hub style bearings. Good value so far! Actually for my road bike as I ride a 404 front on the TT bike.

Hey, I have an old set of Shamal clinchers. I think they are the lower spoke count, I’ll have to check tonight.

40, 41, 42, adn 43mm rims are available from Jalco, Alex, KinLin, and others, but the Felt 40mm rim is exclusive to Felt and the shape is not the same as any other rim at this depth.

I had forgotten about the deeper ROLF wheels, that is another alternative for a full alloy wheel to consider.

there will be a new rim coming soon that benefits from additioanl depth as well as a new wider shape. rim weight is 585g however, so the 16H front wheel is still going to be in the 750-800g range.
