I’ve never seen a bad review
I assume you’re asking about good race descriptions or reports. There must be a few of those on the Interweb.
It’s a fantastic - and tough - race, in a beautiful part of the world. If it’s good enough for Craig Alexander and Mirinda Carfrae…
The bike and run will give your legs a good massage, but it just makes the beer taste better afterwards.
You can simplify your life by staying at the Deerhurst Resort and leaving the car parked for a few days, but there are also lots of other places to stay in the area. The driving logistics aren’t really that bad, they just sound a bit complicated at first.
Mid-Sept. is not usually a warm time of the year in the Muskoka Highlands, but imho that has been a plus the two years I’ve done it. Cool and wet can be a good thing. I found gloves helpful on the bike. The lake temperature will be nice, though.
It’s a shame to see all the doom and gloom about the viability of this race, very little of which seems to be based on fact. No, they aren’t getting 1,000+ people anymore (neither is Calgary), but the sport is still growing and the M-dot allure remains strong. And why not try to qualify for Vegas at a race with nobody who’s racing Vegas that year? Being on the same day as the 70.3 championships can have its advantages, too.

The review goes something like this.
The weather in Ontario in September can be really nice or pretty miserable. It hasn’t been nice yet in three tries (last year the temps didn’t go over 10*C for the entire day). I like the odds this year.Deerhurst is a pretty good place for your support crew to spend the day. Huntsville is a nice quaint village. The swim is nice. Wave start, protected lake. The crowd can see all of the swim. Warm water. The bike is challenging. No really long hills, but it’ll go up and down the whole damned way, and some of those hills are pretty steep. There are a couple of sections at about 8% for about a km.The roads are sh!t.The scenery is amazing. You won’t be bored on the bike. The run is a bitch. Like the bike, constant up and down. There is a pretty tough climb just before the halfway point. At around 17km you hit some trails with these nasty rollers. The uphills kill your calfs, the downhills your quads. Not as pretty as the bike course, but if you’re like me you couldn’t care less at that point.I like the fact it’s a smaller race as far as 70.3s go. You have tons of space on the bike, but at the same time it is bigger than the average race here in Ontario meaning you’re never lonely.
I have helped organize this race from a volunteer point of view for 3 years, and now am racing in it for my first time. I have biked the course a dozen times and it is in good shape, but these are the roads that I am used to. There is a stretch of road for 4k at the early part of the ride that has just been stone packed. Fully rideable at full speed, but have to be careful at corners turning on to this section as there is some loose gravel…but the township states that this will be swept for race day. Otherwise, great ride.
I agree, the 15k to 18k stretch is a lower body burner, and not much breeze as it goes through some woods on a paved path. But still scenic.
Check out our website for more information about where to eat, where to get gear, where to stay, course info, and where spectators can get best views out on the course at www.trimuskoka.com
See you soon!
See you there, hopefully no where on the race course though ; )

Yeah, I’m afraid you don’t have to worry about lil’ ol’ me breathing down your neck. I came across some of your recent results and on top of that they stuck me in the last wave. Was the same in the Muskoka Long Course; I spent 55km yelling “ON YOUR LEFT”, since I was among the last 20 out of the water (crap swimmer in the last wave. Nice). But I expect you’ll be way up the road from me going at least as fast as me, so yeah, not happening.
Are you staying at the resort??
Yes, should be up there Sat am, but taking off Sunday as work starts this Tuesday…you?

Same. Both me and wife running low on vacation days. We’d planned to stay 'til Monday morning, but no can do. But then again, I should be fully recovered by 4pm anyway, right?

Hope it’s swept for the race…rode it today and the turn onto south portage is still terrible…had a fleeting thought that it might be safer to just go straight through the intersection into the lake instead of try and survive a half inch of loose gravel on the fastest turn on the course! I agree that the packed stone section rides pretty good…its mostly uphill anyways so the speeds won’t be too fast through that section. It wasn’t rough enough to shake my bottles out of my rear carrier either.
I’ll be there racing it for the first time this year as well. Definitely due for some good weather. For the past two years I’ve raced a nearby olympic race on the saturday of the 70.3 weekend and the weather has been incredible…then goes to crap about 5 am sunday morning.
TriMuskoka and the World Endurance Corporation have been in contact with the municipality and those corners are going to be swept.

Don’t you mean my wife and I??? The canadian education system has truly failed us.

In fairness he is European but in all seriousness Jan missed the race because he was hit by a car and was just recently released from the hospital…at this point I’m not worried about his grammar skills
He called me out for using an apostrophe in Andy Pott’s name in another thread. Then said that the American Education system was bankrupt and used what I had done as an example. I was just saying he isn’t perfect either.
He’s probably hopped up on painkillers or going slightly insane from the inability to move around.
