What’s the lake temp? I arrive AKL on 27/2.

After my experience there a month ago, I just don’t believe you. ;
Are you doing it? How’s the foot and the head?
lake is still meanrt to be coldish but there are people swimming in it during day (for fun not training so no wetsuits), i havent been for a swim in it since i have been away for 3 weeks.
my head is fine, just have a spot where there’s no hair where i had stitches and which went scabby, and a lil bit of a bump.
my foot feels good, did feel a bit baddish the other day but i had done lots of running.
are u doing the IM kiwipat?
nah…quite keen to nail the half iron and under distances at this stage. I am pretty sure I could go slow in IM all day and do about 13/15hrs and although that would be hugely difficult I am not convinced that is the challenge for me. I seem to get more joy out of redlining it for 2 - 5 hrs at the moment.
Maybe next year.
im yet to redline in a triathlon. well go as hard as i can etc…well apart from first half (and first tri) i did when it was just about finishing.
the k2 road race is good for that tho, you have to go hard with those bloody hills!
My first IM. Traveling from Texas - hope it goes well. Taupo looks great on the webcam…
2006 will be my first IM. Planning the year ahead now, and will be entering as soon as they open in March/April.
Good luck to you all this year.

Well thank you Mr “I could do it but I don’t see the need”. Thats exactly what I intend to do, take it slowly and finish in 13-15. Talk about making someone feel bad. Now I’ve got to see my coach to get my motivation back. “Hey, Jon, do you still think I should do the Ironman? Kiwipat says you don’t have to do it for real” “Of course you should, I’ve got the coaching fees to think of, and what about the health industry you single handedly support? What would they do if it wasn’t for the mid-life crisis? Don’t you listen to that bad man”
You are a very bad man.
You are a very bad man.
Well, an ex-girlfriend thinks I am evil on legs, so there is a consensus building!;
Dude, all I was trying to say (perhaps a tad inelegantly) was that it was not the challenge for me, at this time. But it is still a hell of a thing to do, and clearly if you have sweated through the last however many months and more, it may well feel like your entire raison d’etre right here, right now.
God speed, mate. I will be rooting for you, and all those who take up the challenge.
Feel better? :))
I’m doing it - looking forward to hopefully some warmer weather. training in the winter is not as much fun as i hoped it would be for the third year in a row…
I’m flying up on Wednesday before from ChCh - I’ll be down there for two weeks prior to the race - so at least i’ll be on the right time zone.
I’m looking forward to the swim again - it’s a great lake to swim in and I’m hoping to push my swim time a bit and then take it easy on the bike so I don’t blow up on the run as usual…
i haven’t booked a place to stay yet - if you have a rec for a backpacker that would be sweet…
Gee I’m in a grumpy mood. Sorry I let a bit out. Thanks for the understanding. Must have been because I wasn’t made redundant on Friday. Four months pay, summer finally arriving, big training schedule…but no, we have to stay on and build the worlds best company or something.
