The guy was clearly a big talent, and I understand he suffered a horrific injury that may change his perspective. But still… I am just not getting his jokester or hipster antics. Would love to see him be a little more serious and competitive a little more frequent.
agreed who knows what the sponsors think?
Would love to see him be a little more serious and competitive a little more frequent.I think he held a jersey in the Tour de France (TIOOYK) and helped a teammate to the final overall podium in that race…
What makes you think he isn’t being serious off camera? Why is it bad for him to have a quirky personality? Seems like he had a pretty solid first Tour this year. Not only is he probably not still fully recovered, he will likely never end up being as good as he could have been because of it. I’d rather him be quirky than bitter. ST needs to figure out what it wants from racers. First we get complaints because people are too robotic, now it’s because they’re funny.
Maybe… but I never saw much of him on TV or around Rigo. Sure, a day in the polka dot is good. All I am saying is that given how much talent we were told this guy has, I sure would love to see him keep his head down and race hard instead of doing all the extra stuff with the 70’s porn star look and those stupid video segments he did.
Maybe… but I never saw much of him on TV or around Rigo. I only watched a few minutes of highlights each day so didn’t see him. I assume you saw early in each stage where he’d be helping on the flats, so you can judge.
I like that Nate Brown kid… nice, work hard, and still pretty funny, at least in one of the interviews he did on NBCSN after the stage.

Everyone knows it’s impossible to “race hard” but have fun before or after the race. Absolutely impossible.
I pretty much saw each stage from the full stage NBCSN live broadcast each morning (TiVo’ed), and I never saw much of him in race action. I don’t think he ever tried to jump in a breakaway.
And judging by his final classification (159th, 4 hr 18 min behind), it’s clear he was dropped/gapped quite a bit even on flat stages.

I thought his video segments were fairly good. He seems like a free spirit. As far as him not being serious enough, I don’t mind. It’s sport after all, not combat.
Never tired of him.
So what you are saying is that because he’s a professional athlete he shouldn’t have a personality? Or at least not one that you don’t like? Jeeee… The guy is human let him live and be whoever he wants.

the guy is not only talented, he came back from a horrific injury to ride the tour de france. he completed it on his first go, only 4 hours slower than froome. i’m willing to bet you would be cut off after stage 2.
TF was probably the best part of this years your. kid was absolutely hilarious.
How many olympic games have you been to again? And how about grand tour finishes?
