Off all the tri specific gear, which ones would you say must be bought new, and which would be better bought pre-owned? Specifically:
Wetsuit/swim skins
Tri suit/tri shorts
Aero helmet
Nutrition/hydration storage

I wouldn’t buy trisuit/shorts or helmets as used. Unless I knew the seller personally.
Swimskin…yes, I’ve been looking for one…used.
Nutrition/hydration storage…maybe as long as we aren’t talking bottles or bladders…because, “ick!”.
Would you put wetsuits under the same category as swim skins?
I wouldn’t buy any of that stuff used, I mean maybe the aero helmet but even that’s a bit gross to me.

Eh…I don’t know. People pee in those things. I bought mine new…so.
If it has touched someone else’s taint, been peed on, or heavily sweated in…hell no
The helmet isn’t worth the risk. Anything that can save your life isn’t worth hoping the original seller is telling the truth over.
Bike, wheels, bike box, swim paddles, etc. are fair game in my book.

Internal inconsistencies.

Do you not pee on your wheels too?
As a loose rule of thumb, race-only gear is typically worth buying used. It may be several years old but is generally low mileage compared to stuff used in day-to-day training.
Swimskins are an example. People often get them for use in just one or two races. Here in California, virtually all races are wetsuit legal so people only get a swimskin for destination races like Kona.
Likewise disc wheels. They are race-only so typically only have a few hundred miles of use (vs. deep carbon wheel that may also be used for thousands of training miles).
Ditto for aero helmets. Typically some scuffs and dings from travel and transition zones, but generally in great shape.
Tri shorts for sure. The older the better. Make sure they are aged and fermented well.

It can be an expensive sport so I’m good with any used items, including all you listed above

pee or contamination from glue etc etc whats worse …
Basically everything DEPENDING on the condition. So many people buy expensive stuff tries it once or twice, realise it does not suit them and sell it off. Noone is buying a 3 year old used Tri suit but one used for a race or two sure
I’m of the same mindset. If the price is good, relative to the condition, there’s almost nothing I won’t buy used, and I tend to prefer to buy used, rather than new, because new stuff is stupid expensive and used stuff is often 1/10 the cost.
My washer and dryer work just fine, and I’ve got a steam setting for the first “go through.”
