I am planning on either getting a powertap or race wheels in the very near future. Which should I get first? I have about $800-1000 to spend so I can’t afford to get both right now. If the powertap, which model do you recommend and where is the best place to look for one? If wheels, what do you recommend? I am only about 120lbs so I was thinking not anything too deep, maybe something along the lines of a 404 and 808, not necessarily Zipp but something comparable. If it helps, I am riding a Kuota K-Factor and my A races are primarily olympic distance. Any input is appreciated!
get race wheels, prob 404 front 808 back or similar setup. maybe look into flashpoint, theyre pretty affordable new.
Powermeter. No question.
A wired p-tap can be had fairly cheaply. Add $100 for a disc cover, and you’re halfway to your race wheelset.
is it worth it to pay the extra for wireless? what are some advantages/disadvantages for either?
I’d say no, not on a budget. I agree with that PM + Wheel cover. That’s a lot of bang for your buck.
Why not get a 404 Powertap to train on, and a disc cover for racing with? IMO this is the best of both worlds. You can even get the 404 built up as the “Clydesdale version” for added strength.
*** edit: oops, just noticed your budget! Used wheels are the way to go!
