Which pro triathletes earn your respect?

Hey gang,

Here’s a little '08-'09 game:

  1. Which pro triathletes do you respect most right now and…
  2. Who do you suspect you’ll respect most at the end of 2009?

Whoever posts the 20th reply to this thread will win a cool prize from VeloPress.

Thanks!

An athlete who isn’t afraid to take an occasional risk to possibly do something great. Someone who races hard no-matter the race. I find I have more respect for the little guys gutting it out day-in day-out to try to make it, than the guys sitting on top. That being said, they had to get there somehow right?

gotta give it to Faris, as well as some of our ST pros (bjorn/ruble/sergio/jonnyo/jonas etc).

  1. Petr Vabrousic.
  2. Petr Vabrousic.

He is the most determined long distance triathlete i have come across. Will be doing the same race as him in 3 days time, and here is a preview:

See he was in a group representing long distance triathletes. Very approachable and polite.

Here he is in 2007, he would have won this day but…

And here is what i expect to see this Saturday. Belinda Granger had to stop on the bike for sheep being moved down the road but hey it is NZ:

oooh, Chrissie Wellington! forgot about her

Much…

…respect…

…for…

Wellington and Badman when they are smiling from ear to ear.

muffintop is a pro, right? he is on my list too!

thought of more.

Alex M-M
Mike Caizzo (whose name I think I just spelt wrong)

Not in particular order but…

Joanna Zeiger
Rutger Beke
Desire Ficker

because they didn’t drop out like the most lipstick pros, they walked and finished the race.

“lipstick pro” – LOL
.

Stadler ! Got heart and does not quit when going gets tough.

Uh…what about the whole bike throwing incident…maybe you were being sarcastic
.

  1. Karen Smyers
  2. Craig Alexander

Emma Snowsill earns my respect for OWNING ITU tri’s.
Chrissie also wins respect for killing it in 2008.

Next year I predict Stadler will train smarter and his legs will take him to victory in Kona.

This is the funniest answer! Thanks for the laugh!!!

Unless he (Normann) gets a flat and can’t get the tire off.
And what’s up with the whole broken front derailleur thing? A screwdriver could have locked that chain in the big ring.

I have to go with Torbjorn Sindballe. He is big, he overheats and yet he keeps coming back.
