if i have dura ace with bar end shifters do i buy the STI nokon housing set? or does it not work with TT bars? i have vision tech carbon extensions and an aluminium base bar both with internal routing.
thanks
The STI set will work fine with your bar end shifters and internal cable routing. Get that one. It’s can be a little tricky to install the first time but I know that I wrote a post about it sometime last year so do a search for that thread and give me a shout if you need a better explaination. I think that I’ve installed about 15 sets of Nokon cables for customers.
I prefer to use the campag ergopower set - it comes with Konkavex which is much easier to route through the bars
.
what is konkavex?
The flexible metal tubing that runs under the bar tape for the brake set. Campag shift cables run under the bar tape too so they also have it.
like they said the sti works great, theat hint about the reason for campy might be a good one though although that konkavex extension probably adds a few grams if you are really really weight conscious. I’ve been running them on my tri bike for about 4 years now.
cool, thanks. are there any issues with campy vs. shimano cabling where the cables connect to the shifters and/or other components?
No other than the fact that neither the STI or Campagnolo Nokon kits are going to have the correct shifter cables for use with Dura Ace bar end shifters - the cable end knobs are completely different.
