Which KMC Chain?

Interested in a KMC Chain…there are several different models. For those familiar with these chains, what are the Pros/Cons of each and which do you recommend?

Superlite / Extra Lite / Lightweight / X Series??

KMC X10SL or X11SL is the way to go. They are strong, durable chains that shift well. I use them on both my Shimano and SRAM bikes. The only thing that might be annoying for a first time installer is their missing link connector. You really need connector pliers of some type to install the link effectively.

I’ve used X10s and now X11s. They’re quiet and shift smoothly.

I will usually go with the EL since it hits the best value/price ratio for me. I’ve used SLs also.
I prefer KMC chains over Shimano.

The open and close tools for the links are really cheap and handier than messing with needle nose pliers.

I’ve only ever used the XL series, for both the 10 and now the 11. Used them on a full SRAM system and also Campy with both SRAM and Campy cassettes, never an issue. I had a crimping type tool in my toolbox that works pretty well with the missing link, but I just ordered the tool from Amazon for like $12.

Hollow pin supposedly are the best. And once you learn how to do the pliers trick, you can do it with any pliers, anytime. No problemo.

KMC X10 works perfectly fine with Shimano and for me (not the most powerful cyclist, riding in dry conditions) they last for at least 4000 miles. But I use the Wipperman Connex link. No tools required, easy to open and close your chain, and you can use it over and over again. I’m using the same link on my third chain (~ 10,000 miles for this link) and it still works like new.

I used KMC X10SLs for a long time. I thought they were great, but I recently bought a new SRAM Red chain, then I realized how much better the SRAM shifts (up front) than the KMC chain.

Same, i have been using the KMC x10 and x11 SL for a year or so and then switched to the new Sram Red 22 chain and wow, the Sram chain is much better shifting. At half the price, much lighter, better shifting i have no problem staying with Sram. The new 11 speed Sram chains, cassettes, and chainrings are really top notch. I will admit the KMC chains have good wear life but that is the only benefit.
