Which crack pipe do you use?

I just got my wheelcover for my race this weekend and completely forgot that I need a crack pipe. Anyone use one that they like? Thanks, PC

I’ve used this one for several years. Works well.

I’ve had much better luck getting a good reliable seal with this type vs the brass Silca crack pipes: http://compare.ebay.com/like/400504888728?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar

The Silca type has machine threads, intended for specific pump types as is the Leynze Speed Chuck. I’ve had good success with this model and it is also very thin so it fits the standard Zipp disc cutout without any modification to the wheel.

Obligatory smart ass reply: whatever crack pipe my pimp lets me use!

ordered mine from wheelbuilder at same time as the aerojacket.
good seal but still need 2 people to inflate.
did it once by myself by holding crack pipe on stem, using other arm and chest to inflate - never want to do that again

Purchased a Leyzne to inflate my trispokes…great pump and seal!

Crack is whack yo! But if you must toke, use a honey bear!

Silca playa’

Forget all of the above mentioned crack pipes. Get his:

A little spendy but with this little head you don’t need to hold the crack pipe in place to pump. The head fits in the valve cut out and locks onto the valve. Makes filling a disc stress free.

THIS!!! No crack pipe needed.

I used a crack pipe for two years with my disk cover. This season I got sick of using one and just cut the opening on the cover a little larger. I use electrical tape on race day to cover it up - works fine and I don’t have to fiddle with any additional gear.

I’ve got one of those. It worked great for a while, but I’ve found that either the rubber seal is wearing out or it just doesn’t work as well on my valve extenders as it did on the non-extended valve stems I used to use on my covered wheel, so it’s really finicky about getting the tightness of the collar correct in order for it to not leak while pumping. A hair too tight and I can’t get it over the valve even with the lever open, a hair too loose and it leaks even with the lever closed. But it sure is pretty.

  • 1000 on the KCNC pump head. The really real deal is this Hirame track pump head, but it’s more expensive and I can only find it shipping from Japan.
I tried all kinds of solutions for Hed H3 and disc wheels and nothing worked without being a pain in the butt, especially for discs. Ever since I got the KCNC head I don’t even think about it. It’s a piece of cake to use, seals tightly every time, never blows off, and I don’t have to hold it onto the valve. It is totally worth the $40.

I was looking at my wheelcover last night and started thinking the same thing. Thanks for confirming. Did you just use scissors?

Yep - scissors, but I used some heavy duty meat cutting ones (don’t tell my wife!).

Ha. My kitchen turns into a bike shop while my wife’s away. Safe with me.

If you want to get it cheap and locally, go to your bike shop in purchase a Presta to Schrader adapter. Then go to a hardware store and purchase a tire inflation Chuck and an adapter with a hose barb on one end. I used some rubber tubing and hose clamps to attach the hose barb to a Schrader valve I took off an old tube. You still end up using one hand to pump and one hand to hold the adapter, but it’s cheap.

Just figured out you still have to hold down the Leyzne pump head with a hand. That doesn’t do my any good. Looking into getting the Hirami.

how does my pump head fit this? Looks like i have to put a piece of tube in there?

Foilies. Disposable. Less incriminating evidence.
