Hi,
Planning to by a CAAD10 in addition to my P2. However, anyone could explain me the difference between the different variants of CAAD10? I am all confused. The bike will not be my TT bike, it will be to ride some nice mountains around Santiago. Any recommendation on which one I should by? Would like not to spend more than 2500 USD but also want a proper bike. This narrows it down to Ultegra or Rival version. What are the key differences between these? What more do I get for the 300-400 USD that the Ultegra is versus the Rival?
Just depends on what you’re used to. Both fine groupsets. Very different ‘feel’ to the shifting. You won’t be disappointed with either.
I have a 011 10 with Ultegra… I just happen to get a nice deal on it… But from what I’m being told by my shop, the 10 with 105 is the better price point, if money is the issue… 1400.00 range
The Ultegra comes with a few upgrades the lower ranks don’t… LIke carbon wheels…R80’s… If I recall the weight dif between the Ultegra model and the lower ones were about 1lb dif.
Mine weighs in at 16.3 out of the box.
So far its been beyond expectation… Good climber and awesome crit bike.
The Ultegra one comes with better wheels and a better crankset. And it comes in that slick black/green paint job. Functionally though, you won’t notice much difference between the shifting in Ultegra 6700 and Rival.
As others said, Shimano (i.e. Ultegra) vs Sram (i.e.Rival) is the main differences and really it is personal perference. They are all very good groupsets and will work just fine. There are also sometimes differences in the saddle or wheels the bike comes with as well, but the frame is the same accross the different models. Test ride a bike with Ultegra and a bike with Force and decide which feels better to you. I think you get more for your money on the Rival bike, but some people perfer Shimano groups.
Sorry to add more complexity to this, but unless there is a certain reason why you want the CAAD10 (i.e. Crit Racing or something like that), I would go with a SuperSix 105 instead of the ones you mention. This would be around the same price point as the CAAD10 Ultegra, but give you a carbon bike. I don’t think you would notice any difference between the ultegra and 105 but you will likely notice a difference between a CAAD10 frame and a supersix frame.
I have a supersix rival and I am very happy with it.
The bike is a CRIT killer… Your going to love it…go 105 and get nice wheels…
I would agree, but when you weigh out the two bikes, the CAAD10 Ultegra is actually lighter than the 6, unless you go to the top version, as the carbon is different. Out of the box at the shop, the 6 came in at 17.8, the CAAD at 16.3
It then becomes a personal preference on ride… For me I couldn’t tell the difference between the two. So as a crit racer, I took the high road on the crash recovery…LOL
Can you actually get the CAAD10 with Ultegra now? There was a super long wait earlier which is why I got the 105 version since that was available. Super great bike. I love mine.
Yeah, totally agree, the CAAD10 is the way to go for crit racing.
I test rode both back to back and SuperSix had a better feel to me. Maybe it was something like tire pressure or just that I wanted to justify the carbon in my head. Weight was not a factor that I considered much as I wanted something that fit, was comfortable enough for long rides, and still felt like it handled really well. Like most triathletes I like carbon and just wanted to point out to the OP that he could likely get a SuperSix 105 for around the same price as a CAAD10 Ultregra if he was interested in a carbon bike.
No disagreement my man… Ride on…
I will likely use the bike mostly for fun (I like climbing mountains), no racing, and I am by no means an experienced rider. So I would probably just go for the CAAD 10 rival which will be just around 2000 USD. I have my Cervelo P2 for tri racing.
I just got the caad 10 105 for crit/road racing and love the bike but absolutely hate the 105, it sucks. If you are just on training rides it is fine but shift changes under load and in climbing situations are not very sharp or dependable, Ultegra is awesome overall as i have that on my tt bike. Also, the breaks are definitely not up to spec if you want some serious stopping power, other than that this is plane out a sweet bike for a great price point.
I would go with the caad 10 force if it is available, then the ultegra, then the rival in order of best buy.
So I would probably just go for the CAAD 10 rival which will be just around 2000 USD.
CAAD10-4 (Rival) lists at $1799, you should be able to get it for a little less. Unless you’re not in the US, then I have no idea.
