Which bikes have the best resale value?

Just as it says.

I don’t know. But I would think the bigger names (C’Dale, Cervelo, Trek etc) would have the best resale. I think though that you would get your best resale based on the condition of the bike. I looked at a Kestrel KM40 once and it was in rough shape. He had paid over $6000 (cdn dollars) and was only asking $2500 a year later.

Resale value? What’s that? I plan on riding mine to the grave.

Look on ebay for the most popular searches in the bike section. Giant, Trek, Specialized, etc. are all in there. If you are selling, I’d recommend selling part by part if you can. You’ll make more money that way than by selling the whole bike, but it does take a bit more work to do so.

Litespeeds seem to garner a premium (probably because you don’t have to worry about the paint/craftsmanship and perceived durability of titanium). Cervelos seem to be going for a lot lately as well due to their popularity.

None of them. I took a friggin’ bath on a rare Corima.

I just bought an 04 QR Santo with under 500 miles that retails for about $2,500. With upgrades, over $3,000 spent. I paid $1300. Typical bike transaction.

Actually I’m noticing that P2K’s and P3 aluminium frames are quite cheap on ebay right now.

It seems that no bike really holds value after a few years. Unless it’s something like a limited production high end custom like a Richard Sachs, etc.

For mass production bikes some of the Lightspeeds, Sevens, Serrottas and Colnagos seem to keep their value better than most others.

Eventually bikes become old enough to become collectors items, but who wants to ride a 40 yr old bike.

The thing is that once te market gets flooded with anything, the prices drop sharply.

Everyone wanted a P3 or a P2K, and now that everyone is going to try and fence theirs, nobody cares anymore.

A Richard Sachs will NEVER be like that because of one simple fact: there are not many of those, and most people keep theirs.

A $100 Wallmart special. You won’t lose more than $100 when you go to sell it.

You could gain more than that on certain trade-in offers.

I still wish I hadn’t sold my steel Specialized road bike I bought in Europe. I should have made it into a fixie. That me a lesson about selling my bikes.
