Which bike for IMLP?

I have been riding for the last 5, maybe 6, years a Oryx road bike I bought for about CAD $1000. I added aero bars several years ago and have been commuting and doing all my tris with this only bike!

Now, I just aquired a QR Lucero 2006 (got it this morning) and I am considering going with the Lucero @ IMLP even though I will have about 4/5H hours on it (about 1H, max 1h30 on it each time)…

Is it “risky”/Does it make sense? Even if this is an IM, is there a point to “play it safe”?

P.S.: I do not plan on breaking any records or winning my AG or getting a slot for Kona, “just” going under 12H for my first IM!

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Fred.

make sure it is comfortable and then ride the new toy
.

I would go with the bike you know. You have a long ride ahead of you anyway. It’ll be longer with a bike that may or may not fit just right.

Then again, ride the new bike if you have good fit on it and you’re comfortable.

Good luck!

The conservative play is to go with your road bike. But if you are confident that the new bike position is comfortable with just as much power, and you have had an independent look at it by a tri-bike fitter, I’d say what the heck. The worse thing that can happen is that you’ll suffer the last 3 hours of the bike praying to get off and you’ll run a much faster run split because you’ll feel so much better. Maybe.

Make sure you give us a full race report. Good luck!

I have a Lucero and love it. You won’t be dissapointed, Just make sure the seat post doesn’t slip as I believe they have had problems with that.

That is what bothers me the most and how it would potentially affect my run…
Maybe with the excitement of the IM going on I will “forget” about the pain…

On the other hand, I probably save 2/3 lbs with the Lucero which is not negligible with all the climbing going on in LP!!!

Cheers,
Fred.
