Which ASICS trail shoe?

Which ASICS trail shoe is most like the DS trainer?

I’ve been running in DS trainers for a while and am having a hard time finding a good trail shoe. Some of the ASICS I have tried fit and are designed more like some of their more overbuilt models. The Fuji Racer is not enough shoe for some longer runs - great for less than 10 miles, not not sure about its durability.

Thanks.

Trained and raced Tough Mudder (12 plus miles) using the Fuji Racer - Loved it as I have trained and raced in the DS Trainer and Speedstar during tris. The shoe is pretty durable, the sole looks hardly worn after all the abuse.

According to a local Asics rep, Asics is comming out with the Fuji Trainer which is a neutral shoe that has a little more cusion than the Fuji racer.

I think Runningwarehouse.com will have them soon.

While I have the Fuji Racer and really like it I will put longer trail miles in my Mizuno Ascend. That shoe has a little posting like the DS trainer.

You may also want to look at the Asics GT2000 and Gel Scout. GT2000 has a little support while the Scout is fairly neutral.

I’ve got the Fuji Racer and like its fit and weight, but I need a bit more cushioning in my shoe for the rocky trails around here. The Fuji Trainer looks like what I’m looking for. Thanks for the heads up, it is not even on their website yet, but looks like it is on RoadRunner Sports. I’m going to give them a try.

For you guys that like the Fuji Racer, what do you use for a road shoe? I cant find anything I like that compares to my Fuji Racers and just use them on the road for all my training and racing, but they are deadly slippery when on wet pavement.

Mizuno Wave Rider for and every day shoe and Asics DS Racer for a fast training/racing shoe

How attached are you to Asics? Get the Brooks Cascadias

Right around 25 years of attachment. Tired a few others here and there and keep coming back to ASICS.

FWIW because I know they are not the equivalent to DS trainers, but this still might be helpful. Have run in Asics 21xx for 5 years now and bought a pair of the trail 2150’s last year. Wore them a few times and they have been collecting dust since. Do not fit anything like the regular 21xx’s and they are very heavy. Figured the fit would have at least been similiar.

I have tried the Brooks Cascadia’s that the previous poster mentioned and I didn’t like those either. Run trails in the regular 21xx series shoes and I have not had a problem although I can’t remember running on wet trails. I run some pretty technical terrain as well.

Picked up the ASICS Fuji Trainer 2 and ran in them this evening for 5 miles (4 on the trails and he rest on roads to and from). Really liked them. They are a bit more cushioning and foot protection than the Fuji Racer. Very light, low toe to heel drop, low to the ground, flexible, neutral, like a fast training flat.

My new favorite trail shoe by a large margin.

Great!!! I’ll be looking at them soon

Sometimes, a section of trail, will be part of a longer run on pavement. I’ve found my Lunarglide 4s will do all of it.
