Where to Swim in Plano TX?...or ride

Guys, any suggestions on where I could go for a swim this evening in Plano other than the 8m pool in my hotel? I’m at a hotel on Old Shephard Place. Alternatively I could crack my bike out and go for a ride, although it is all packed up and ready for the flight home tomorrow. But if there a group ride I could hit after 6 pm, that might be an option (assuming you permit tri athletes with aerobars to show).

thanks

Dev

Here are your best options. Oak Point has a larger and nicer pool. Tom Muehlenbeck is closer to you.

Tom Muehlenbeck Center
5801 W Parker Rd 972-769-4404

Oak Point Recreation Center
6000 Jupiter Rd 972-941-7540

8 bucks for drop in. You can also drop in for Masters. Here is that schedule.

Devpaul, i live a mile or two from where you are and have plenty of bikes if you want to go for a ride today. I work from home and have a pretty open schedule. As for swimming, there are 10 pools within 4 miles of your location, 24 hr fitness, Lifetime Fitness and many rec pools that you can pay a day fee for.

PM me if you want to ride.

I’ve visited family in Plano plenty and swam at the Tom Muehlenbeck Center. The Wetcats occupy most of the pool in the morning but leave 2 lanes open at a minimum. They clear out at 7:00 and it’s wide open. The coach (whose name I have forgotten) seems to be more than willing to let you jump in one of his lanes.

For finding pool in Plano or anywhere, check out http://www.swimmersguide.com/query/Main1.cfm. I’ve found pools all over when traveling. The list is not exhaustive but is still useful when going to somewhere totally new.

RBM has a group ride Wednesday’s that starts at 6pm and isn’t real far from you in Plano(Coit and Campbell in Richardson). It’s pretty tame the first part of the ride and will get faster at the end. Distance varies on daylight available. Aerobars are accepted as long as you’re not in them unless on the front.
