Where to Store Salt Tabs During Marathon

Kind of a silly Queston…

Any ideas for storage of salt tabs during a marathon? I plan on using 1 an hour (3) I do not have any pockets, and do not plan on racing with a fuel belt.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Put a pocket or pockets on your race belt. I picked up a little mesh pocket somewhere that slides on a race belt, but it wouldn’t be hard to cobble something together for a few tablets.

It is a silly question … why do you need “salt tabs” for running a marathon?

I use the fuel belt pill dispenser put into the elastic rings on the run belt. The salt tabs do get stuck in there though so I am looking for a wider tube - I think the Smarties one works well too.

I use one of those M&M containers… works well.

Issue is I wont be using a belt of any sort, only things I can think of are carrying something like a pill bottle? But that might be kind of annoying

clip on pouch on the rear strap of your visor.

Why would you need to ingest salt during a 3 hour event?

Maybe 6 hours.

I was thinking of trying out one of those pill dispenser things that people use for their daily medications. Haven’t got one though to see how many pills each thing will hold. I just don’t like the typical salt tab holder/MM shaped containers. I have a salt tab dispenser on the bike but they only hold 6 pills, so I will probably use two of those under each aero bar on the bike but trying to figure something out for the run.

One of the containers that NUUN comes in also works well. You can shove that into one of the elastic loops on a race belt.

I also use a container similar in shape to an m&m one and put in in a pocket of my stretchy waist belt, and almost cram it half full with a paper towel, because the sound of saltsticks bouncing around for hours annoys me greatly.

Certainly recommend taking them during marathons if you have a high sweat rate and it’s 90 degrees out, for example. One an hour works wonders for me.

In a baggie tucked into my shorts. Bring more than you need in cause you drop some!

You can get small ziploc baggies (like the size of a teabag) at a sewing goods or crafts store, perfect for carrying a few salt tabs and/or Advil etc.

Hello dubd71771 and All,

Commercial Opportunity!!

Make time release salt tabs in color. Red = 1 hour, Blue = 2 hour, Green = 3 hour, White = immediate and so on.

Take them before you start the race and ‘forget about it’!

Cheers,

Neal
