Where to run in Central Park?

Will be in the city this weekend and would like to take a nice run in Sunday morning in Central Park. What would be a nice loop of 5-8 miles from about 72nd street in the Upper East Side? Also, do any groups meet on Sunday morning for a run?

Just run the main outer loop. Its 6.1.

The main loop in central park is just a touch over 6 miles. You can head into the park at 72nd street and follow the main road - cars aren’t allowed in the park on weekends. Check this link for an idea of distances or smaller loops to run longer or shorter than 6

You can run around the reservoir or along the bridle path if you’re looking for something unpaved. The biggest hill is furthest North in the park with a smaller hill just North of 72nd on the East side.

Be aware this Sunday (Dec 5) is a 10k at 8am. I’d suggest entering but it’s sold out. It will be run on the main road - probably about 5,000 runners.

Running or biking in central park with a race going on is generally not fun (unless you are participating). I would suggest going before / after the race. Otherwise, running along the Hudson is pretty nice, although it is an out-back run instead of a loop.

x2 on main loop…is great.

All the more reason to run on the Bridal Path and Reservoir. You won’t even see the race.
