Anyone know a good place to get Specialized Armadillo tires cheaply on the internet?
thanks,
I get them directly from the specialized website, same price as my LBS.
I’ve never found them cheaper anywhere else. Sooooo worth the money.
Get them from any IBD rather than Specialized; they get their share already. Go support your local shop. More than likely anywhere you find online will only be $10 or so cheaper then add shipping and wait time you’re about even. My shop has a couple of pairs of Armadillos and I’m hoping they’re still there on Tuesday for my roadbike. Have you ever ridden them? I want to try them out and not need to mess with flats. I’m currious how stiff they are.
Yes, have them on now. I really think I wore them out without getting a flat. I’m totally sold on these. I believe they are a little heavier and harsher but not getting flats is way better for me. Somewhere on the net is a study where the researchers rode different tires through a trough of glass shards and rode the bike for 5 miles. Armadillos were the only brand that did not flat. This matches my experience with them.
I don’t get many flats currently but figure throwing on some heavy tires would make for good training. The roads are very nice around here so hopefully they’ll be ok. We have lots of little sharp rocks from tons of construction that just slice a tire. I have hawk eyes and avoid the stuff but it would be nice to just cruise right over it.
I bought mine from Specialized as the LBS didn’t have the exact tire and size I wanted.
These tires are not a panacea re. flats-- I double flatted on two brand new '07 All Conditions Reflective Armadillos (25mm) on just my second ride in Albuquerque when I rode over a little goathead weed/plant (on a bike trail!) last week.
I agree with them buy from your LBS, who will be there to help you out next time you need something… specialized’s website or your LBS?

That’s odd since my Armadillos have always defeated goatheads. Even the lighter Armadillo Elites have taken direct hits from goatheads and shrugged them off. This is on my road bike.
There have been times that I’ve gone over the tires and removed a dozen goathead thorn tips that have been stuck in the tread for awhile.
I don’t know of much that will stop those goatheads. Although I’ve never had them penetrate my armadillos, I have had them go through the bottom of my running shoes, ouch!
This wasn’t a normal goathead encounter. Went directly over a patch of dried-out skeletons of the damned weed and had probably 50 goathead thorns in each tire. Three thorns went through the rear; haven’t had the heart to go confront the front yet.
Maybe I’ll do that this morning so I can install my new Specialized Airlock tubes (purchased from the LBS)…
