I’ve been planning to go swimming OW in a local lake soon (very safe, no boat traffic, lots of other local tri-peeps train there) and I’d like to get one of those plastic things and tie it to my ankle for safety reason (you just never know) but I’m really drawing a blank in terms of where they might be sold. Any ideas?
Also, what do you usually use to tie it? Just a normal rope? thin bungee cord?
www.swimoutlet.com has them at $50 US They are listed as rescue tubes. I am sure there are a bunch of other lifeguard sites, Google to find one close to you.
plastic surgeon…and you are a guy, why would you want them?
all joking aside…I massaged a guy with butt implants and it was the grossest thing I have EVER seen. Thought the calf implants grossed me out. Just waiting for my day for the pec implants on men, I know its coming.
you’re kidding right, a GUY with butt implants?!?!?!?!?!
I’ve seen on one of those specials on discovery health channel a woman putting those in and at the end she looked like she had two half tennis balls stuck under her buttocks: totally ridiculous, and she paid like 15 grand for it too!
I thought that pec implants were already happening in the bodybuilding world, but maybe it was just an assumption…
Yup, no bull. Last time I was there a bear cub comes sauntering up the paved road totally ignoring us, after it leaves the road we head to the change rooms where we see the remnants on a berry bush where I think Mummy bear must have been feasting recently.
Same year a member of the local tri club saw the bear in the water. they had just finished the swim and looked back to check they did not leave anyone behind and lo and behold a bear was in the middle of the lake getting in some training!
No idea where to buy them, might want to call the specialist swim places and dive shops. Start at NorthShore Aquatics and ask them. The local life guards must get them from some where.
Dont worry about the bear, I suspect its rare occurence and in any case you are more likely to scare it off - I once saw myself in a wet suit I should know!!
But seriously I never go into open water alone, ever. Find a group, I know Coquitlam and North Shore do open water swims there. Or stay in town on the Monday/Thurs and do open water @ Kits with the group. Much safer this way. Get in touch with Zulu as his club swim there, but dont try to hang with Zulu unless you are a bit of a swim stud!~
@ Kits there is a resident seal that sometimes is very interested in swimmers. At this rate Julian is going to stay in the UK where the wild life tends to come out only at closing time or soccer matches.
I am in complete agreement with you regarding swimming alone in open water. One never knows what could happen. I love sea swimming but would never swim alone regardless of how smooth and calm the conditions are.
I assume you mean the seal is off of Kits beach and not in the pool!
well on occasions I have seen the odd whale @ kits pool. To top it off he was in a thong speedo!
Seriously the seal is always interested in swimmers, but never comes close enough to be an issue. I once escorted some open water newbies, the seal chose that day of all days to come close and investigate! On that note every morning about 6.30 an older couple swim off the rock @ Kits stark bollock naked and they swim like this this through the winter. Puts us all wimpy neoprene clad tri heads to shame!
