Where on body to wear race belt?

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but im adjusting one I just bought for a race on Sunday.
Thanks

Around your waist.

If you’re like me, it will ride up and be under your pits at the end of the run, but it should start around the waist.

I like to wear my Nathan belt just below the top edge of my tri shorts, sometimes even lower to keep it from riding up to the area below my navel.

I hate it around the waist. I use a swedish goggle strap so it stays down around my hips. A lot less annoying there.

This post may belong elsewhere, but are there tri events that a person doesn’t have to wear a race belt? It seems imo that the race number on a belt is unnecessary due to wearing the timing chip on the ankle. Why the paper race number still?

visual identification for penalites, quicker ID in the case of an accident, announcer can tell who you are without a chip mat, photographer can identify you in race photos for sorting…lots of reasons.

You don’t have to wear a race belt in any tri. You can use the provided safety pins to pin your number to your jersey.

That makes sense. Until the event organizers build a better “mousetrap,” we’ll continue to sport that belt, even if it’s low rise style, or, like some certain pros, inside our tri shorts so the finish line photo looks cleaner for the Wheatie box.

Good point. I tried that, but after one of the pins opened “accidentally” and poked me in the gut in T1, I decided to stick with the super hero belt.

Yes, that’s the downside to the pins. That, and they tear up whatever you’re wearing.

This makes me think of having a pair of tri shorts that has a race belt incorporated into the fabric, such has one having snaps or toggles right below the waist line. Is there a manufacturer that makes such a thing? Might eliminate the need to strap on a belt. Of course, you would have to put the race number on your shorts underneath your wetsuit. If it’s not wetsuit legal…well?

You will have a hard time turning you number around in T2.

Anyone know a way to stop a race belt riding up around your waist? It always happens and seems to interfere with my breathing.

Asphalt Green triathlon club has tops that have two little toggles hanging down to secure your bib to.

I like to use a shoelace and tie it loosely so it drops down to my hips.

It passes right through my crotch.

If you look at Filip Ospaly, he wears it beneath his butt - really low by most’s standards.

Glad I got the race belt! the run went well. Unfortunately it did rain the entire run so glad it was only 5km. I did my best time yet (good considering ive only been training 2 months now) - it ended up being 5.53km according to GPS - when I did look at the route it did look like it must be longer than they said.

5.53km in 25:11

Great job!

Keep practicing and you’ll keep getting faster!

It usually sits somewhere between my waist and hips. You don’t want it so tight on your waist that it constricts breathing, or so low on your hips that it would interfere with your stride. You want to be able to spin it to the back for most of the run (better breathability, less stride interference), but move it to the front for the photogs and the finish.

Right around the waistline of your shorts is a good general guide.

I just raced today with the swedish goggle strap as a race belt. Worked perfectly and I highly recommend it as well.

Thanks for the advice GhiaGirl!!

Ended up coming 34th out of 302 competitors  really happy with that
