Can’t find crap for XTR inventory - something in the pipeline with Shimano?
Not super knowledgeable but apparently there’s a new GRX di2 coming out this spring, and maybe a new XTR di2 with it.
could very well be the case - and overdue (although I’d be very pleased with the mechanical as well). I may have underestimated availability, or things have changed. I’m now seeing better complete groupset and component availability with a quick search.
Its here! big reveals today and across the XTR range - derailer looks clunky but is fully wireless - not sure about the prominence of the XTR logo across the crank(s). Aesthetically I like the outgoing mechanical best but this new groupset will certainly be easy to deploy.
I wish I could like the look of the new XTR, but so far I have to say that I don’t. I love the outgoing mechanical XTR and also the brakes - an iconic shape that has remained mostly the same for ages - I haven’t seen the new ones in the flesh yet, but so far I’m not thinking I’ll be keen. And I certainly don’t like the new chainset.
I’m mostly intrigues about putting an XTR rear on my gravel bike.
To do that, what are you thinking about using as the shifter - I haven’t seen anything address the compatibility of the drop-bar Di2 components with with the XTR derailleur…I’d suspect that this tech disperses and trickles down pretty quickly (I’d hope for Shimano’s sake).
According to the Escape Collective, it should work!
“The encrypted wireless protocol is unchanged from Shimano’s existing 12-speed road semi-wireless (wiredless) components. This means that the new XTR derailleur can be used with any existing wireless Shimano dropbar shifter (12-speed GRX, 105, Ultegra, and Dura-Ace). Hello Mullet builds!”
That’s great - I don’t have the EC subscription so didn’t have a chance to read the dedicated article or listen to the pod.
