For me, it’s my glutes. My calves, quads, and hamstrings are fatiqued/sore, but not near as much as my glutes. However, in all my training, my glutes never get sore. And they are only sore after Marathons…I’ve run 3 marathons, 5 HIMs, and 1 IM, and only the Marathons/IM are my glutes sore as hell. This past season I’ve run abot 40 - 50 miles a week…made up of long runs, tempos, intervals, bricks.
Anybody else get really sore glutes…more sore than any other body part.
Haha that’s funny you mention that because after any long run race (Not in training) my hamstrings where they meet the glutes are ALWAYS sore. They are usually sore for a good part of the week too…
But other than some odd ankle or foot pains, this area is the most fatigued on me.
I’ve only done one IM - - 12:09 so competent but not fast. I was not remotely sore the next day - - especially wierd since at the time that IM’s marathon was my marathon PR. After my one previous stand-alone marathon, I would seek out the handicap bathroom stall with grab bars and could barely walk down steps. I’ve heard that running fast during IM means the next day is a different experience than mine.
Aside from all the sore muscles, the most annoying pains were from my nipples and the moles on my neck that got irritated from my wetsuit and all the sweat.
The toe blisters were also not so nice. Speaking specifically about the leg muscles, I think my calves caused the most post-race stiffness. The quad and hamstring soreness was gone within two days. It took the calves at least a week to recover.
After Lake Placid Ironman this year, I can relate to your pain. It took about three days before I could go down stairs without pain. My legs screamed for Percocet!
