When does IM Florida usually sell out

I know Florida is usually on the slow side to fill up … does it fill before may?

“does it fill before may?”

try 24 hours.

seriously … I thought it took months! thanks.

16 hours last year and will be shorter this year no doubt.

I would think that people would be hesitant since most are trying to qualify for hawaii … oh well i guess there are always those slots at qualifying races

Last year, I stood in line for 2 hours the morning after the race and was about the 1500th to sign up. I knew people that were trying to sign up online and never got through on the website until it was already sold out.

Do we go to the IMFL website or active.com? I don’t see anyindication on either that their will be IMFL 06. Online reg. isn’t a sure thing??? I can’t believe that that one couldn’t get through online until it closes out? Crap.

Given that realistically 1800 people out of 2000 really have no hope for the kona slots, I am pretty sure that this is not the the reason why those 1800 people are signing up. Most like the fact that they have all summer to train for it (ie not much long riding in miserable full or half winter conditions like for Arizona, Couer d’Alena and Lake Placid ), and the course is pancake flat, so easier on the newbie.

good point … i just figured even though only a few will actually get a kona slot that tons of people are hopefull and would be hesitant to sign up for florida. I really wanted to do 2 ironmans next year so I was thinking florida would be a good one since it would give me plenty of time after cda but I dont want to commit to that so soon … oh well!

This race sold out in under 10 hrs…we stood in line the day after we did it last year and were worried that it would fill before we could fill out our paperwork. It was sold out before we got in our cars to drive home.

There is a persistent, yearly rumor that the race is not going to take the place the next year. Every year without fail…with no real substance. The Boardwalk Beach just built a brand spankin’ new facility and they run Gulf Coast Tri out of it every year too.

When I raced it in 2003 they told us at the awards dinner the next day that it was almost sold out for 2004. This was around 5:30pm. It is a good course for a first one but there is also a big draw (which is why I chose to do it in 2003) of trying to get the Kona slot a year in advance so that training, racing and flights and hotel plans can be taken care waaaaaaaay in advance for the big trip. In 2003 there were 13 slots in the men’s 35-39 division and not one of them rolled down which tells you about the motivation for some of the faster athletes choosing IMFL.

IMFL may be the toughest IM to qualify at, if for no other reason than it’s easily the most international IMNA race (except Hawaii of course). Tons of fast euros, especially in the 35-39, and especially the 40-44. The year that I went 9:55 in the 40-44 and didn’t qualify I think their were only 2 American’s in the top 10. Great race - great competition, and the second qualifier of the year so generally no roll down’s. Combine all that and you had better have your poop in a group come race day or you can watch Hawaii on TV with me.

Western Auz doesn’t sell out - they close entry a month or so before the race - similar time to Florida
.

Last year I signed up online without problem. The site didn’t even seem slow.

Go for the two in one year!! That’s what I’m doing this year (Wisconsin and Florida). Good fun!

C- Is Their any information out there on registration? What time can start trying, which website IMFL or active etc… One would think they would post this basic info somewhere or am I just an idiot?

I read on a blog that the registration asks for an “insurance policy number” that the athlete has to provide. Does anyone know what this is?

It’s your health insurance policy number.
If you don’t have it at the time make something up then correct it later if they ever want it again.
I’ve never had them check my card or verify the insurance that I know of. What I mean when you sign up if you can’t find it make it up as long as you do have health insurance of some kind.

I think the online registration opens at 10am (race site time), or sometime like that. Last year there was a link on the IMFL website that said something like “online registration now open”. That link took you to the active.com registration page. You could also go to active.com and search for IM Florida.

Good luck!

The IMFL website will take you to active.com under the registration tab. Even at the race site, anyone who had to pay with a credit card had to stand in line at a computer (maybe several, I don’t know). Those people couldn’t even get through because the website was too busy. It kept coming up with a message to try again later. Out of curiosity, I tried to get through the website early Monday morning (a day and a half after the race) and the race was full. I think the 16 hour figure mentioned earlier is pretty close to correct.

If you want a guaranteed entry, stand in line with cash or check the morning after the race. If it’s like IM Canada, you can have someone else sign you up, but I’m not sure if they run it the same way.

Does anyone know if you can still sign up at the race site for next year after the Hawaii roll down takes place. Registration starts at 9am or so and the roll down isn’t until 3pm. Is it still possible to register somewhere at the race site that late in the day if someone wants to wait and see if they get a roll down spot for Hawaii?
