OK, when do you know when it is time to replace your wheelset on your training ride? I’ve ridden at least 7,000 miles on my 2002 set of shimano training wheels…and ok they seem to work fine, but they don’t seem to roll as well as my mavic kysriums that i got two years ago and have on my tri bike…any suggestions appreciated…b2
when they fall off

Service the wheels and you’ll see they’re just fine. 7000 miles is barely breaking them in.
Yeah 7k is nothing. I have the original Easton Vista front that came with my P3 5 years ago. 35k miles on multiple bikes, never been trued, original bearings.
Basically, when the brake track is getting worn down to an unserviceable level is when to trash a wheel. Though the hub may still be good.
Roll or spin? If they are not spinning as well when in the stand they might need some work on the hubs. If they spin fine on the stand but are not rolling as well they may need to be trued.
shy of those two points ride them until you have gone through the wear inidcator on the brake track.
If a nipple falls through the rim from being trued too often or if you have a tire blow-out because the break track is worn through or if the rim is roughly shaped like a taco (or at least a Pringle), you’re due for new wheels. Otherwise, disassemble, clean, re-lube, re-assemble, and you’re good to go.
Sell wheelset on ebay and use money towards another wheelset (race wheels) and then use Mavics for training. The way I look at it is, if you are not enjoying the training because of wheelset ( which might or might not be in your head only.) then get a set that makes you want to train more.
Thx to all who posted…some great ideas and datapoints for consideration…buddy
