When do cracks or depressions in carbon rear discs become "structural"

I’m looking for a second or third hand, “used” rear disc on auction sites, and quite a few of them will have minor depressions and some light top surface fault cracks, not big wholes in the cracks, nothing penetrating the surface, and about all the sellers will say, “these are not structural.”

Why should I care about these issues for a 300 to 450 dollar used disc?

Granted I could save up and get a new disc for 900 to 1200, but I’m not willing to throw that much into a disc. And I don’t want to use a disc wheel cover.

Depressions usually aren’t structural. Cracks almost always are. The one exception is if the wheel is spoked and the covers arecracked, then its no big deal.

hey good question and I’m getting ready to put one on the classifieds here; it’s an older zip with dents and dings; had my bike shop look it over and they said the same thing-nothing structural just cosmetic-it will go up with optional cassette and tire for $250 or pm me for pics if you want to take a look.
