Wheel building question--28h carbon rim on a 24 spoke hub?

A buddy has a 28h Zipp 440 rim he’s willing to give me for beers. And I’ve got a nice 24h rear hub lying in the parts bin. But no spokes. What should I know before building up this wheel. Would like to use it for the occasional sprint tri. Nothing longer. Any advice welcome.

That you need to buy a 28 hole hub…

There are some combinations you can make work–however, that’s not one of them. You can find a smokin’ deal on some 28 hole Dura Ace FH-7800’s though.

Don’t ever even think about buying a FH-7800/7801. You will be limited by the stupid high splined Al cassette body Shimano stupidly used on that model.

However, the FH-7850 is a great hub. Low splined Ti cassette body that will work with any Shimano compatible 8/9/10 speed cassette on the market.

Just drill 24 holes into the zipp rim and plug the unused holes with bondo. I tried that on a rim and it hasn’t broken yet (fingers crossed).

Bondo - are you serious

OK. I’ve scrapped this idea of the mismatched drilling. My well connected buddy found a Zipp flashpoint rim with the correct drilling. Should I spring for bladed spokes or does it really matter that much on the rear wheel.

I’m a budget-conscious triathlete, so any savings in the bike department is well worth it to me.

bladed spoke arent very good aero wise to start with. Get some sapin x ray… this is what zipp use on there wheels. it s the best spoke there is and it wont kill the budget
